After you set up your shop floor-related master data, you define your product-related master data to tell the system the details about what you manufacture on your shop floor. You use this information when you release a shop order to the floor to build a certain quantity of the product.

When you set up your product-related master data, you must decide:

  • Which products that you manufacture, and which components that you manufacture or purchase to build your products, you want to track in the system (see Genealogy)

  • What information you want to collect about components (see Assembly Data Type)

  • Which bills of material (BOMs) you use to manufacture your products (see Bill of Material (BOM))

  • Whether you use kitting (see Kit)
