You can use this business function to activate Employee Self-Service based completely on Web Dynpro ABAP technology. With this, you have more flexible deployment options:

You can use Employee Self-Service (WDA) not only as an SAP NetWeaver Portal role (new Business Package Employee Self-Service (WDA) 1.50), but also as a Portal agnostic role in SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC) for HTML.

Employee Self-Service on Web Dynpro ABAP enables Concurrent Employment. A prerequisite is that you have activated the following business function in your ERP system:
HCM, Time and Labor Management for Concurrent Employment (HCM_CE_PT)
The Employee Self-Service (WDA) role contains services from different functional areas, including services from non-EA-HR systems. These services will only work if you have activated the required business functions for these services. The following business functions are a prerequisite if you want to have the full functional scope of the services shipped in the standard ESS (WDA) role:
- For services from HCM Processes and Forms (PA-AS): HCM, Administrative Services 03 (HCM_ASR_CI_3)
- For services from Performance Management (PA-PD-PM):
  - CA, Appraisals, Evaluations, and Surveys 01 (CA_HAP_CI_1)
