This section looks at database administration for IBM DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows – abbreviated to “DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows” or “DB2 for LUW” – and makes specific recommendations on improving availability. The information provided here applies to all platforms, unless stated otherwise.

Process

  1. You increase the availability of your database using one of the following switchover cluster options:

  2. You work out your approach to backing up your database. You must do this before you start production with the database. When using the database for production, you must back up the database as regularly as possible.

See Archive and Backup with DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

  3. You manage the space in your database. You do this both before you start production with the database and during production as the database grows.

See Space Management with DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

  4. You upgrade your database when required.

See Upgrade with DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

  5. You recover your database if a failure occurs with data loss.

See Recovery with DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

  6. You consider using various standard tools and services offered to increase the availability of your database:

    • The DBA Cockpit
