DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows – Shared Disk Approach 
In the shared disk setup of DB2, you have two database servers and a disk that is shared between the two database servers. The database is located on a shared disk. In the case of a failure, the other node assigns the virtual IP to the network adapter, mounts the shared disk and starts the DB2 instance and database.
For monitoring and for the takeover of the workload, you set up a cluster management software.
