Log on to the master ATC system as the ATC administrator.
Start transaction ATC.
In the navigation pane, choose ATC Administration > Runs > Schedule Runs.
Pick out the ATC series you want to run or create a new series. To create a new series, assign a name to the series and the specify the description and check variant. The F1 help provides more information on these fields.
Then define the set of objects to check. The By Query option lets you specify objects by name (package names, for example) by transport layer, or by component. The By Object Set option lets you specify an object set that you have defined in the Code Inspector.
Change or fill out any fields, as necessary, on the Start Check Run field. The most important fields are these
Field |
Use |
Description |
By default, names a central check run with built-in variables for system, day of the week, calendar week, and year. You can add text to these variables, rearrange them, or delete them, as you wish. |
Central Check Run |
Must be set if a check run is to be visible to all users. Otherwise, the check run appears in the ATC Browser only as a personal run. |
Package |
You must specify the set of objects to check. Defining the list of packages in which your organization develops is probably the best way to specify the object set. |
Profiles |
Specify the Code Inspector check variants for the check run. These tell the ATC which checks should be performed, the priority of the messages, and so on. |
Execution Frame |
By default, the ATC starts a central run on your local application server. The dispatcher runs in batch and delegates work packages to Dialog work processes for execution in parallel on the server. Change these settings only if both of the following are true:
|
Options frame |
We recommend that you accept the default settings — Mark Verdicts with Exemptions, Check Shortdumps, and Check Object Contact are all selected. |
Postprocessing frame |
Set check box Set to Active Result to designate the check result as the new official result (active result). You can also do this after checking the result. In Replicate to enter the RFC destinations of the satellite development systems. The result is then automatically replicated to these systems. You can also do this by hand after checking the result. History series: With these fields, you can have the ATC keep track of the history of each finding. You can see history timestamps under More Details in the Details display of the finding in the ATC Browser. |
Click on Schedule to start a central run. Such runs are executed in the ABAP Background Processing System. An ATC dispatcher runs in batch and distributes work packets for parallel processing.
You can specify the number of work processes that the ATC may use, or whether it should use the resources of an RFC server group. You make these specifications in the Execution frame.
In the Header frame see the F1 help for information on the choices that you can make.
In the Postprocessing frame, you can list the RFC destinations of satellite development systems. The ATC distributes a successfully completed result automatically to these systems.
Result: You have started a central quality check by the ATC in the central quality system.
Note that you can actually start a central run on a satellite development system from transaction ATC. This can be a convenient way to run ATC checks for development teams. But for official quality checks, it is usually better in central ATC quality checks on the ATC master system.
