Function documentationCollaboration with Carriers

In collaborative scenarios, you can allow employees of a carrier access to data in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling. For a carrier, planning is important to reduce the amount of time when the vehicles are not available for use, for example, if they are waiting to be unloaded.

SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling provides a way to work with appointment planners for carriers. This collaboration allows carriers to plan loading appointments for their own vehicles directly in SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling, and update details of their loading appointments.

The collaboration with appointment planners for carriers is based on the following:

  • A user with restricted authorization.

  • A person business partner that represents an appointment planner for a carrier. The user is assigned to this business partner.

  • An assignment of the appointment planner for carrier to a specific carrier.

Recommendation Recommendation

We recommend that you create docking locations for your location and allow the system to determine the loading point for loading appointments automatically. In this way, the carriers can plan their loading appointments for the docking location without needed to know the individual loading point for each loading appointment.

End of the recommendation.

Features

  • Appointment planners for carriers are employees who make appointments for carriers that plan their own appointments in the system. Each appointment planner must have an SAP user. SAP delivers a template role for appointment planners for carriers, called Appointment Planner for Carrier in Dock Appointment Scheduling (/SCWM/DAS_EXT_CARR_PLANNER). You must assign your own copy of this role to each appointment planner for carrier.

For more information, see Assignment of Appointment Planners to Specific Carriers.

  • You must assign an appointment planner for carrier to a specific carrier for the following reasons:

    • You can limit the access to appointments for this carrier only.

    • You can display and identify all users who belong to a specific carrier, for example, if multiple users exist for one external carrier.

    • The system automatically fills the Carrier field for appointments created by this user.

  • Assigning appointment planners to specific carriers

To assign an appointment planner to a carrier, you create a relationship between a person business partner and a carrier business partner. The users, business partners, and relationships involved are as follows:

    • The appointment planner for carrier has a system user with the role Appointment Planner for Carrier in Dock Appointment Scheduling.

    • You create a person business partner for the appointment planner for carrier. You assign the system user to the business partner.

    • You create a carrier business partner for the carrier. You assign the person business partner to the carrier business partner.

  • Authorizations for appointment planners for carriers

The appointment planners for carriers should have only restricted authorization to create and change data, for the following reasons:

    • They must be able to display and edit only their own appointments, and not the appointments of any other carrier.

    • They must be able to display only limited data. For example, they cannot see the overall capacity of the loading points, or other sensitive data.

    • They must be able to change only future, planned data, and not be able to change historical data or executed data.

The template role Appointment Planner for Carrier in Dock Appointment Scheduling (/SCWM/DAS_EXT_CARR_PLANNER) incorporates the necessary restrictions. When you fully qualify this role, you also specify for which loading points the user has authorization, for example, one carrier may be authorized to create appointments for specific loading points only.

  • There are a number of ways to collaborate with carriers using SAP Dock Appointment Scheduling. Depending on which user interfaces and system setup you are using, you may require further roles or configuration. For more information, see SAP Note 2065193Information published on SAP site.
