Business Context and Use

The Dock Appointment business object enables the scheduling of a handling resource,  currently always a door (defined as a place in a warehouse or yard where transportation units can be loaded and unloaded), for a specific period of time. It provides execution tracking of such logistic yard business activities as planning or executing the docking and undocking of a transportation unit (TU) to and from a door.

A dock appointment defines planned start and end time slots, and executed start and end time points.

A dock appointment is created for a specific TU appointment. The dock appointment becomes active when the TU appointment is docked to the door, and is completed when the TU appointment is undocked from the door.

Features

A dock appointment contains the following data:

  • Start and end of the planned start processing period.

  • Start and end of the planned end processing period.

  • Start and end of the processing period.

  • Locking information with the expiration date of the external lock.

  • Warehouse door ID, which is a concatenation of the warehouse number and the door, along with the assigned yard door bin and the warehouse door bin.

  • Yard resource appointment ID of the assigned transportation unit appointment, along with planning and processing data.

When a transportation unit is docked at a door, a dock appointment is created and activated, or the planned dock appointment for this transportation unit appointment is activated by setting the start processing time. The dock appointment is deactivated by setting the end processing time once the transportation unit is removed from the door.

There cannot be more than one assigned dock appointment for one physical dock resource at a time in an 'active' state, meaning that the physical dock is occupied.

Notes on SAP Implementation

  • You are using an installed SAP EWM.

  • The Shipping and Receiving component of EWM must be active.

  • The authority checks for the Process Transportation Unit (/SCWM/DOOR) transaction are valid for this business object.

  • There are no dock appointment service operations to change a dock appointment. A dock appointment can be created with the Create Dock Appointment operation and cancelled with the Cancel Dock Appointment operation so long as the processing of the dock appointment has not started. From the business point of view, a dock appointment is changed when the assigned transportation unit is docked at the door or undocked from the door. This is done via the Change Transportation Unit Appointment operation.

Configuration
Extended Warehouse Management
You can configure the operations for this business object in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management under Interfaces -> Service Operations -> Yard Management, which is also where you can define default values and filter criteria for the transportation units to be processed.
