Process documentationInbound Processing: Transportation Planning in TM-ERP-EWM

When you receive goods from several inbound delivery documents with the same transport, transportation planning is done in SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) based on SAP ERP purchase orders, deliveries, or customer returns orders. SAP TM then creates shipments in SAP ERP, which are sent to SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM). SAP EWM converts handling units (HUs) in SAP ERP shipments into vehicle or a transportation unit (TU) and planned shipping and receiving activity in SAP EWM. You perform warehouse activities, such as, unloading and goods receipt for all deliveries at one time.

Prerequisites

You have performed the steps to integrate vehicles and TUs with SAP ERP shipments as described in Integration of ERP Shipments in Shipping and Receiving.

Process

  1. SAP TM receives purchase orders, deliveries, or customer returns orders from SAP ERP and creates the corresponding transportation requirements and freight units.

  2. Based on transportation requirements, transportation planning is done and freight orders are created in SAP TM.

  3. If transportation planning was done based on purchase orders or customer returns orders, SAP TM creates deliveries in SAP ERP.

  4. SAP ERP distributes inbound deliveries to SAP EWM and SAP EWM automatically generates the corresponding warehouse request in SAP EWM.

  5. SAP TM creates the shipment in SAP ERP corresponding to the freight orders.

  6. The shipment information is transferred to SAP EWM, where a vehicle or a TU and planned shipping and receiving activity are automatically created and the inbound deliveries are assigned to the TU activity.

  7. You execute the action Arrival at Checkpoint for the vehicle or the TU. The system automatically changes the status of the shipping and receiving activity from Planned to Active.

  8. You assign a door to the vehicle or the TU.

  9. If yard management is active, you move the vehicle or the TU from the yard to the assigned door. If yard management is not active, you execute the action Arrival at Door for the vehicle or the TU.

  10. You perform the warehouse activities, such as, unloading the goods, posting the goods receipt and putting away the goods.

  11. If yard management is active, you move the vehicle or the TU from the door to the yard. If yard management is not active, you execute the action Departure from Door for the vehicle or the TU.

  12. You execute the action Departure from Checkpoint for the vehicle or the TU. SAP EWM automatically changes the status of the shipping and receiving activity from Active to Completed.

  13. You set the execution status of the SAP TM freight order to Completed.

  14. You carry out the freight settlement in SAP TM. The freight settlement document in SAP TM is the basis for the invoice verification and settlement in SAP ERP.
