Function documentationIntegration of ERP Shipments in Shipping and Receiving

Shipping and receiving offers features that integrate SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) with the transportation (LE-TRA) component of SAP ERP. Using this integration, it is also possible to integrate SAP EWM with SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM). With this integration, you can control and monitor the entire transportation process from the planning stage to the goods receipt at the customer location or your own plant.

Prerequisites

  • You have set up the IDoc communication between SAP ERP and SAP EWM for sending and receiving SHPMNT05 and TPSSHT01 IDoc. For more information, see Define Default Values for IDOC Outbound in Customizing under Start of the navigation path Extended Warehouse Management Next navigation step Interfaces Next navigation step ERP Integration Next navigation step Transportation Next navigation step Define Default Values for IDOC Outbound End of the navigation path.

  • You have created a link between the means of transport derived from the SAP ERP means of transport type and the transportation unit (TU) packaging material. On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Start of the navigation path Extended Warehouse Management Next navigation step Settings Next navigation step Shipping and Receiving Next navigation step Link Between Packaging Material (TU) and Means of Transport End of the navigation path. This setting determines whether SAP EWM creates a vehicle or a transportation unit.

  • The Post Processing Framework (PPF) actions /SCWM/SR_SEND_SHPMNT and /SCWM/SR_SEND_SHIPPL are active in the action profile assigned to the TU, vehicle, or both in SAP EWM.

  • You have defined default values for IDoc outbound in Customizing. See Define Default Values for IDOC Outbound in Customizing under Start of the navigation path Extended Warehouse Management Next navigation step Interfaces Next navigation step ERP Integration Next navigation step Transportation Next navigation step Define Default Values for IDOC Outbound End of the navigation path

  • You have set up the mapping between the SAP ERP shipment number and external TU or vehicle number. In Customizing, choose Start of the navigation path Extended Warehouse Management Next navigation step Interfaces Next navigation step ERP Integration Next navigation step Transportation Next navigation step Make Settings for Shipment IDoc Processing End of the navigation path.

Features

The following features are available in Shipping and Receiving in SAP EWM:

  • Staging area and door determination contains the following transportation-relevant attributes:

    • For inbound processing: carrier, means of transport, and handling unit (HU) type of packaging material

    • For outbound processing: carrier, ship-to party, means of transport, and HU type of packaging material

  • The system displays the following data:

    • Transportation planning type, for example, for TUs, vehicles, and deliveries, indicating which transportation planning process you use.

    • Transportation planning system in case of transportation planning in SAP TM

    • Corresponding SAP ERP shipment number, for example, for TUs, vehicles, and deliveries

    • Origin of route for TUs

  • Based on the planning results of a shipment (assigned deliveries and HUs) received from SAP ERP through the SHPMNT05 IDoc, the system can automatically create TU activities and vehicle activities and assign deliveries to them. Based on the assigned HU data from SAP ERP, the system creates TU activities and vehicle activities in the following way:

    • If you have one HU assigned to the shipment and you have selected the Optional checkbox in Link Between Packaging Material (TU) and Means of Transport (transaction /SCWM/PM_MTR), the system creates a TU activity only.

    • If you have one HU assigned to the shipment and you have not selected the Optional checkbox in Link Between Packaging Material (TU) and Means of Transport (transaction /SCWM/PM_MTR), the system creates a TU activity and a vehicle activity.

    • If you have more than one HU on the same level, the system uses the first HU to create a vehicle activity and it uses the remaining HUs to create TU activities.

    • If you have nested HUs, the system uses the highest-level HU to create a vehicle activity, and it uses the lower-level HUs to create TU activities.

  • The system notifies SAP ERP about the execution of the plan in SAP EWM by sending the SHPMNT05 IDoc to SAP ERP after the system has set the Goods Issue Posted status of the TU.

  • When you delete a TU in SAP EWM that has been created as a replica of an SAP ERP shipment, the system deletes the corresponding shipment in SAP ERP by sending the TPSSHT01 IDoc.

  • In warehouse outbound processing with transportation planning in SAP EWM, the creation of the SHPMNT05 IDoc is automatically triggered by the PPF action /SCWM/SR_SEND_SHPMNT.

  • In processes with transportation planning in SAP ERP, you can create a TU or a vehicle from an SAP ERP shipment. You can use the SAP ERP shipment number as external TU number or external vehicle number.

  • In processes with transportation planning in SAP EWM and communication to SAP ERP, you can create an SAP ERP shipment from a TU or a vehicle. You can use the external TU number or external vehicle number as SAP ERP shipment number.

The following restrictions apply for SAP ERP shipments relevant for SAP TM:

  • Cross-delivery handling units are not supported in an SAP TM freight order. In order to prevent the creation of such handling units in SAP EWM, you can either use the Order Combination indicator in the SAP ERP customer master record or implement Business Add-In (BAdI) /SCWM/EX_CORE_CONS in SAP EWM (an example implementation is provided by SAP).

  • Transportation Management in SAP EWM cannot be used in combination with SAP TM.

  • It is not possible to assign single delivery items to an SAP ERP shipment
