Destination Storage Bin Determination in Transit Warehousing
The system uses destination storage bin determination based on condition technique. The system considers various attributes when determining condition records. The determination result contains information about the destination data, such as storage type, storage section, or storage bin. This result is considered during the destination bin determination in the warehouse task creation. For more information about warehouse task creation, see Warehouse Task Creation in Transit Warehousing.
You have set up the condition technique application TWP and condition technique usage TW in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management
under , in the following Customizing activities:
Define Field Catalog
Define Condition Tables
Define Access Sequence
Define Condition Types
Define Determination Procedure
Define Condition Maintenance Group
Register Condition Maintenance Group
If you are using the standard setup, this step is optional.
You have assigned the determination procedures Transit HU
and HU Container
to the warehouse number in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management
under .
You can use the fields provided in the field catalog to build your own destination bin determination in the system. However, the standard setup includes determination procedures for your use.
You can maintain condition records in the SAP Easy Access
screen, by choosing .
Condition technique allows you flexibility when defining destination data.
Examples
Destination bin determination using the location information of next unloading location or final transit warehouse. This allows you to separate the cargo by the cargo’s destination. So you can separate cargo for different countries or regions based on the location of the next unloading location or the final transit warehouse.
Destination bin determination including a step for staging the cargo, by using an activity of the warehouse process type that has the warehouse process category Stock Removal
. This allows the system to detect that the process is an outbound process and that it can find a destination bin for staging the transit HUs in a storage bin close to a specific door.
We recommend using a storage type with the putaway rule Transit Warehouse: Staging Area for Door
as destination in this case. You can set this in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management
under .
This putaway rule reads a staging area that is close to the door that is assigned to the outbound TU. To assign the staging areas, on the SAP Easy Access
screen, choose .
Destination bin determination using logical conditions where you have defined additional logical statements like number ranges or value ranges that allow the system to find condition records based on logical expressions. For example, this allows you to determine different destination bins for different postal code ranges, such as the postal code of the last transit warehouse in the range 70000-80000, and find the same storage section or storage bin for them.
To define logical conditions that can be used in condition records, on the SAP Easy Access
screen, choose .
Recommendation
Add the warehouse number to the name of the logical conditions to differentiate them easily across warehouses and locations.
Destination bin determination based on the dangerous goods data assigned to the cargo. This allows you to have dedicated storage areas for dangerous goods and to separate them from each other and from the other cargo in the warehouse.
Destination bin determination based on additional attributes. This allows you to separate cargo or store it together. For example, you can store high value goods in a special area or separate oversized cargo.
Destination bin determination for HU containers so they can be moved to different areas depending on whether they are to be unloaded or not.
Destination bin determination for loading HUs onto a HU container in different areas or at different work centers in the warehouse. For example, you can have different work centers for different countries.
Destination bin determination for inbound cargo based on the freight booking, using putaway rule Consolidation Group
. This allows you to define multiple inbound sections for the work centers so HUs belonging to the same freight booking are located near each other.
If you want to copy condition records from a different warehouse number or a different system, you can copy and upload the condition records into the system using the transaction Copy Condition Records
. On the SAP Easy Access
screen, choose .
You can test if the condition records produce the expected results using the transaction Check Destination Bin Determination
. On the SAP Easy Access
screen, choose .
The system can find multiple valid condition records during destination bin determination. The system searches for a storage bin for all entries of the condition records result, and uses the first bin that fulfills all the criteria.
The result of the condition technique must include a storage type. Storage section, storage bin type, and storage bin are optional in the condition records.
The system searches for the destination storage bin based on the condition records result. If the storage bin is not defined in the condition records, the system searches for bins according to the settings of the storage type. The storage type can use different putaway rules.
You can use the putaway rule Consolidation Group
to consolidate HUs on storage bins. The consolidation group can be determined in the following ways:
For putaway of transit HUs, the system determines the consolidation group based on the forwarding order.
For HUs that are being prepared for loading, the system determines the consolidation group based on the freight booking.
As a result, transit HUs with the same forwarding order and HUs being prepared for loading with the same freight booking are stored on the same bin. This happens based on the assumption that all HUs do not exceed potential capacity limits of the storage bins. If the potential capacity limits of the bin are exceeded, the system determines an additional storage bin for the consolidation group.
For more information about the determination of the consolidation group, see the Business Add-In (BAdI) Determination of Consolidation Group for Transit Handling Units
in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management
under .
For more information about consolidation groups, see Consolidation Group.
You can use the putaway rule General Storage Area
for storage sections with multiple storage bins
The storage section check is not used in transit warehousing. The system uses the condition records to find the correct sections.
