You can use a temporary license key to bridge the time period until the permanent license key requested from SAP is received. The temporary license key is valid for four weeks.

Caution Caution

When you install a temporary license key, it overwrites any existing permanent digitally-signed license key.

End of the caution.

A temporary license key may be required in the following cases:

  • If the hardware configuration of the host on which the message server is running changes. In this case, the hardware key of the host can also change.

  • If the message server is moved to another host

  • If the validity period of the permanent license key expires. You can use the temporary license key to extend the expiration date by four weeks.

Prerequisites

  • You are in transaction SLICENSE on the Digitally-Signed Licenses tab page, or, in exceptional cases, for the installation of a temporary license key for an old license key, on the Old Licenses tab page.

  • Within the last four weeks there has been a valid, applied-for license and it has been checked.

The following messages tell you that a temporary license key cannot be imported because the date of the last successful license check was more than one month ago:

    Old license key:

saplicense: Temporary license NOT installed, *** Old license older than 4 weeks

    New license key:

No permanent license key. Temporary license key forbidden.

Perm. license key never checked, temporary license key forbidden

Temporary license key already exists for "&1"

No license key in the system. Temporary license key forbidden.

  • The SAP system was not created from a copy of an existing SAP system.

    Note Note

Request a license before you need to work with a copied SAP system.

    End of the note.

Procedure

  1. Choose   Edit   Temporary License  .

The new license key is displayed under Installed Licenses in the Database.

  2. Check whether you can log on to the SAP system.

If you can log on, the license key has been correctly installed. If problems arise (if an error message is displayed during the installation procedure, if you cannot log on, and so on), refer to the section entitled Frequently Asked Questions About the SAP License.

Result

The temporary license key is installed and displayed in the list of licenses. The license is activated immediately.
