Mass Conversion in the Production Planning Run 

Use

You can use a mass conversion in the production planning run to convert Supply Network Planning (SNP) orders and Capable-to-Match (CTM) orders that start in the conversion horizon. To do so, you specify an appropriate heuristic for the processing step in which you want the system to execute the conversion.

Conversion with the Heuristic for Individual Conversion SAP_SNP_SNGL

You can specify a heuristic based on the algorithm /SAPAPO/HEU_SNP_CONVERT, such as the standard heuristic SAP_SNP_SNGL, for the processing step. Since the heuristic can process both orders and products, you can enter either the orders or the products for the processing step for which you want the system to execute the conversion. The system uses the settings you defined in the heuristic for the conversion. If you have specified orders for the processing step, the system does not take account of the settings for selecting the orders in the heuristic settings. The system executes the conversion without creating packages and without parallel processing.

Conversion with the MRP Heuristic SAP_SNP_MULT

For the processing step, you can specify an MRP heuristic (algorithm /SAPAPO/HEU_MRP_PLANNING) in which the heuristic SAP_SNP_SNGL is entered, such as the standard heuristic SAP_SNP_MULT. This means you can use the service functions of the MRP heuristic for the conversion. These are important for a high-performing mass conversion and include the extended log, parallel processing, and package creation.

·        If you want the system to execute the conversion in the parallel processing mode, you need to have:

¡        Maintained the destinations for parallel processing in Customizing forProduction Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS):

¡        Set the Parallel Processing indicator in the MRP heuristic settings

·        If you want the MRP heuristic to process the orders by package, you need to have specified the Maximum Package Size in the MRP heuristic settings. The maximum package size is the maximum number of pegging areas whose orders the system can group together into a package. The system processes the packages sequentially. If the conversion of an order in a package is not successful, the system does not convert all the orders in the package.

The heuristic SAP_SNP_MULT processes products. For the processing step, therefore, you have to specify the products whose orders you want the system to convert. You define which order types the system converts for a product in the settings of the heuristic SAP_SNP_SNGL. You also define all additional settings for the conversion.
