Process documentation Source Determination in Capable-To-Match  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

Capable-to-Match planning (CTM planning) executes source determination during the CTM planning run.

Prerequisites

·        You have maintained the following fields in the location product master:

¡        Procurement Type

¡        Plan Explosion

·        For in-house production sources of supply, in other words, for production process models (PPM) and production data structures (PDS), you have selected in the CTM profile either PP/DS Type or SNP Type.

·        You have assigned the sources of supply to the supply chain model that you use in CTM planning.

·        If you have specified a master data selection in the CTM profile, this master data selection must contain the corresponding sources of supply.

Process Flow

If you have specified a Search Strategy in the CTM profile, CTM first evaluates this search strategy, in other words, the system first searches for existing receipts and supplies in the specified supply categories. If the system cannot fulfill the demand using the existing receipts and supplies, or if you have specified the source of supply determination as the most important in the search strategy, the system proceeds as follows during determination of the corresponding source of supply:

...

       1.      Timely Demand Fulfillment

CTM planning always first tries to fulfill the demand on time. This is also the case if the system cannot take the specified Quota Arrangement or Procurement Priority into consideration.

Example

For source of supply A, you have specified procurement priority 1, and for source of supply B, procurement priority 2. The system can only fulfill the demand with source of supply A late, whereas the system can fulfill the demand with source of supply B on time.In this case, CTM planning chooses the source of supply with the lower procurement priority, so that it can fulfill the demand on time.

       2.      Quota Arrangement or Procurement Priority

If all sources of supply can fulfill the demand on time, the system either considers the defined quota arrangement or the values for the procurement priority.

¡        Quota arrangement

You must have defined at least one quota arrangement for the location. If this is the case, the system does not consider any other settings, such as the procurement priority. If the system cannot uniquely determine the source of supply with the quota arrangement, the system determines a random result.

If you have not specified a quota arrangement, or set the indicator Ignore Quota Arrangements in the CTM profile, the system considers the procurement priority.

¡        Procurement priority

If you have specified the In-House Production procurement type in the location product master, the system considers the procurement priority in the PPM or in the PDS.

If you have specified External Procurement as the procurement type, the system considers the procurement priority in the transportation lane.

With procurement type In-House Production or External Procurement, the system compares the procurement priority from the transportation lane with the procurement priority in the PPM or PDS.

The source of supply with the lower value for the procurement priority has priority over the source of supply with the higher value. The highest procurement priority is the value 0.

If CTM planning has to choose between several sources of supply with the same procurement priority, the system compares:

§         The costs of the means of transport for transportation lanes

§         The fixed multi-level costs for the PPMs or PDSs

§         The costs of the means of transport with the fixed multi-level costs in the transportation lane and PPM or PDS

As the result, CTM chooses the source of supply with the lowest costs.

       3.      Validity Start Date and Validity End Date

If the quota arrangement, procurement priority and costs have the same value, the system considers the validity of the source of supply. If CTM planning is using backward scheduling, the system selects the source of supply whose validity is as near as possible to the demand date. In the case of forwards scheduling, the system selects the source of supply with the earliest validity start.

       4.      Lot Size Data

If another differentiation is necessary, the system considers the lot size entries for the sources of supply for in-house production.

Note

The system only considers sources of supply for in-house production if its value for the minimum lot size is smaller than the demand quantity, or its value is smaller than the minimum lot size value in the location product master.

If the demand quantity is larger than the value for the maximum lot size of all sources of supply for in-house production that are considered here, the system selects the sources of supply for in-house production with the highest value for the maximum lot size.

If the system determines several of these sources of supply for in-house production, the system selects the source of supply for in-house production with the lowest value for the minimum lot size.

Note

If CTM planning has to split the order, the system only executes supply source determination for the remaining quantity again, if the value for the minimum lot size is larger than the remaining quantity. If this is not the case, the system follows the sequence of the source determination that has already been executed, to determine the source of supply for the remaining quantity.

Result

If the system cannot uniquely determine the source of supply in this way, CTM then determines a random result.
