Specifying a Propagation Definition for Characteristics
Use
The Characteristics Propagation screen is divided into two work areas:
Prerequisites
For more information, see
Starting the Characteristic Propagation.Procedure
The workflow runs from left to right.
Work area (left) - PPM Components for Selected PPM Plan
In this section, you assign classes to the individual components contained in the current PPM plan. The work area contains tab pages to be used as follows:
or
If a class has not yet been assigned to the component, choose Propagation à Propose Classes.
The default class is proposed automatically. All products in logical components are assigned to classes (pegging) and all resources are assigned to an active class (block planning).

To view the default value assignments for the selected component, choose Propagation à Standards.
Work Area (Right) – Detail View of Selected Components
In this section, you propagate the value assignments and requirements for the components you selected in the left-hand work area. The table header indicates the component currently selected.
Tab: Value Assignments
|
Column |
Procedure |
|
Required field |
The system automatically generates the information from the class definition. |
|
Characteristic |
The system lists all the characteristics that have been assigned to the classified component. |
|
Value assignment used |
Set an indicator if the characteristic of the selected component is to be passed on to another component as a value assignment.
|
|
Value assignment set |
Set an indicator if the characteristic of the selected component is to be adopted as a value assignment.
|
|
Source type |
You can change the characteristic value assignment by entering one of the two types.
|
|
Data source |
[Display function] The data source indicates the source of the value assignment of a characteristic in the current component. |
|
Macro |
If 'M' is specified as the source type, you access a macro which provides the value assignment for the appropriate characteristic in the component. You can expand the context menu by double-clicking on it, and the relevant macro will appear. See Creating Macros. |
Tab: Requirements

Characteristic |
The system lists all characteristics that are assigned to the classified component. |
|
Requirement set |
Set a flag if the requirement for the characteristic of the selected component is to be changed dynamically. |
|
Value set or mapping interval |
If the requirement is based on nominal characteristic types, a ‘ü ‘ is displayed which indicates that entry field is in display mode and the entry cannot be changed. If a standard value has not been maintained, you can make a selection here. |

Group Box: Component Details
Displays the component and the assigned class.
Standard Value Assignment
You can assign values to characteristics for receipt and demand components, as well as activities.
The Default Value Assignments for Components dialog box then appears.
Standard Requirement
The characteristics for receipt and requirement components can be saved as requirements.
To set requirements for individual characteristics, choose Default Request for Component.
The Default Requirements for Component dialog box then appears.
For more information, see
Characteristic Value Assignment and Requirement.Rules
If you selected a logical component for receipt or requirement, you can also define rules to use when the product selection is prioritized. This also applies to product selections for the logical component and to the mode for the logical component with respect to the activity.
Click the Rules button to go to the Maintain Rules screen.
When rules are defined for the logical component, the number assigned also specifies a priority.
As the requirement, enter the appropriate rule number for the product that should be used.
