Creating a Workspace TemplateLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You are assigned the Workspace System Administration role.

Context

Enterprise workspaces enable you to create workspace templates for both shared workspaces and personal workspaces. Creating a workspace template involves defining the template properties, such as name, description, and master language, and then defining the content and layout of the template in the workspace authoring environment. You can specify the default template to use for each type of workspace.

Procedure

  1. In the portal, navigate to Start of the navigation path Workspace Administration Next navigation step Workspace Templates End of the navigation path.
  2. Choose New from the table that corresponds to the type of template that you want to create: shared or personal.

The New Template dialog box appears.

  3. Specify the following:
    1. Name - A clear and distinctive name

    2. Description - The purpose and contents of the template

    3. Maximum Number of Pages - The maximum number of pages for workspaces that use this template. If no value is specified, the number of pages is not limited.

    4. Maximum Number of Modules Per Page - The maximum number of modules per page for workspaces that use this template. If no value is specified, the number of modules is not limited.

    5. Master Language - The language represents the master locale and affects the translation of the template name and description. At a later stage, the template should be translated to all supported languages.

    6. Filter IDs - When the Apply Desktop Filter property is set to true, specify one or more filter IDs, separated by semicolons, to filter this template and any workspaces created from it, according to the desktop in use. For more information about the Apply Desktop Filter property, see the section about Workspace Options in Configuring Features.

    7. Set as default - Select this check box to set this as the default template for workspaces of this type.

  4. Choose OK.

The workspace authoring environment opens in a separate browser window.

  5. For each page in the workspace template, choose Layout to determine the layout of a the page, and then choose Add Content to add module placeholders to the page.

Select the Set as permanent module check box in the module placeholder to specify a permanent module that cannot be deleted from the workspace. A page containing a permanent module cannot be deleted.

    Note

When you add a module to a workspace template, consider the permissions and security implications, as this module could be exposed to users who do not have authorization to view or access its content.

For more information, see Organizing Content in a Workspace.

  6. Choose Done.
