Accessing RulesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

  • The user account you use should be assigned to one of the SAP_XI_ADMINISTRATOR_J2EE, SAP_XI_CONTENT_ORGANIZER_J2EE, SAP_XI_CONFIGURATOR_J2EE, or SAP_XI_DEVELOPER_J2EE roles. For more information, see Monitoring Roles .

  • You have accessed the alert configuration tool in one of the following ways:

    • Open a browser and go to http://[host]:[port]/nwa to access SAP NetWeaver Administrator. Then choose Start of the navigation path SOA Next navigation step Monitoring Next navigation step Message Alert Configuration End of the navigation path.

    • Open a browser and go to http://[host]:[port]/pimon to access the Process Integration tools. Then choose Start of the navigation path Configuration and Administration Next navigation step Common Next navigation step Alert Rules End of the navigation path.

Note that you can do this only when the system is configured to use the component-based message alerting mechanism. In case the system is configured to use the Alert Framework mechanism you cannot use this approach to access the alert configuration tool.

Context

You can review the alert rule details, copy or delete available alert rules, and check their consistency.

Procedure

  • Select an alert rule and review its details below the table; you can display the following helpful information:
    • You can view the results of the activation of the alert rule and whether it has been successfully distributed to the Alert Engine on the runtime components for which it applies. To do this, choose the General tab and then choose the displayed value of the Runtime Cache Distribution parameter.

      Note

The system displays distribution information only about runtime components that support directly the component-based message alerting mechanism and have an Alert Engine. Although the alert rule can apply also to systems that lack an Alert Engine, such systems are not displayed since the alert rule is distributed to the central Advanced Adapter Engine instead to them. For more information, see Integrating Alert Framework-Based Systems .

    • To view the message header filters for an object listed in Message Header Rules , select it in the list and choose Show Header Conditions .

  • You can perform the following operations with the rules listed in the Alert Rules table:
    • Create a new alert rule or edit an existing one. For more information, see Modifying Rules .

    • To create a copy of an existing alert rule, select it in the table and choose Copy .

The name of the alert rule created this way consists of the CopyOf prefix and the name of the original rule.

    • To remove an existing alert rule, select it in the table and choose Delete .

  • When you have many alert rules it might happen that some of them are overlapping, have obsolete header rules or no consumer is registered for them, or have some other inconsistencies. You can check the consistency of the alert rules in the following way:
    1. In the Alert Rules table, select the alert rules you want to check.

    2. Choose the Check Consistency button.

    3. Choose the consistency checks that you want the system to perform and run them.

    4. Review the results and modify or remove alert rules as necessary.
