Modifying RulesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

  • You have accessed the alert rule configuration tool. For more information, see Accessing Rules .

  • If you want to be able to apply an alert rule to a certain AS ABAP system, you must define this system as a business system in the Integration Directory. For more information, see Define Business System as Communication Component .

In addition, for AS ABAP systems using enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 or later releases, you must configure the communication between the corresponding AS ABAP system and the Integration Directory. For more information, see Configuring Business Systems (with Web Service Communication) .

  • To have the message payload information in the alert, you should configure in advance the user-defined search feature for the runtime component that processes the message. For more information, see Configuring User-Defined Message Search (for Advanced Adapter Engine) and Configuring the User-Defined Message Search (for Integration Engine).

  • You are familiar with the standard life cycle of configuration objects in Integration Directory, and understand what happens when you activate a configuration object. For more information, see Working with Change Lists .

Procedure

  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Create Next navigation step New Alert Rule End of the navigation path to add a new rule, or Edit to modify the currently selected rule.

In case no default alert rule is currently available, you can create one by choosing Start of the navigation path Create Next navigation step Default Alert Rule End of the navigation path.

  2. Choose the General tab and proceed as follows:
    • For new alert rules, you must enter the name of the rule.

Optionally, you can provide a description of the rule.

    • Set whether the alert rule is enabled or not.

Only rules that are enabled can be activated and distributed to the Alert Engine on the relevant runtime components.

    • Set the severity of the rule.

    • Set whether the message payload should be part of the alert.

You must configure the user-defined search feature for the corresponding runtime components in advance as described in the prerequisites above. Consider that the only payload information that could appear in the alert is the one that matches the search criteria you defined when configuring the user-defined search feature.

    • Optionally, you can remove consumers listed in the Consumers table.

  3. Choose the Message Header Rules tab.

The alert rule contains Integration Directory configuration objects referred to here as objects. You can manage the objects for the alert rule as follows:

    • To add a new object, select the object type from the Add menu and choose an object from the list.

Consider the following when adding objects:

      • An alert rule should contain at least one object. The only exception is the default alert rule.

      • When using an Advanced Adapter Engine Extended (AEX) system, you can also add integration flow objects.

      • You can use sender agreement and receiver agreement objects only for AS ABAP-based runtime components.

      • Use the Show Message Header Rules option for each object you add. This would allow you to ensure you have added the correct objects to the rule and the system would generate alerts as you need them.

    • To exclude an object from the alert rule, select the object and choose Remove .

  4. Choose the Components tab to select to which runtime components the alert rule applies.
  5. Choose the Message Statuses tab to select to which errors in message processing the alert rule applies.

You can select individual errors as well as groups of errors.

  6. Save the alert rule.

Results

The system stores the changes you made to the alert rule. You can complete the alert rule modification process in the following ways:

  • Select a rule and choose the Consistency Check button.

The system performs a test of the alert rule and notifies you if some of its parameters need additional modification. You can receive notifications when the alert rule contains configuration objects or runtime components that no longer exist, as well as in other cases.

  • To distribute an enabled alert rule to the relevant runtime components, select it and choose the Activate button.

Consider the following when activating rules:

    • You can monitor the results of the activation of the rule using the values of the State and Runtime Cache Distribution fields on the General tab, as well as the corresponding value of the State column in the Alert Rules table. For more information, see Accessing Rules .

    • An alert rule can apply to an AS ABAP system that supports only the Alert Framework mechanism available in earlier SAP NetWeaver releases. When you activate such a rule, it is deployed to the Alert Engine on the central Advanced Adapter Engine. You also need to configure the corresponding AS ABAP system to send alert events to this central Advanced Adapter Engine system as described in SAP Note 1584248 Information published on SAP site. For more information, see Integrating Alert Framework-Based Systems .
