Modifying RulesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Do one of the following:

Choose Create to add a new rule, or Edit to modify the currently selected rule.

    • To create a new alert rule, choose Start of the navigation path Object Next navigation step New End of the navigation path, enter the name of the new rule, and create it.

In case no default alert rule is currently available, you can create one by selecting the corresponding option.

    • To modify an existing alert rule, select it in the object view, choose Start of the navigation path Object Next navigation step Open End of the navigation path, and then in the alert rule view choose Start of the navigation path Alert Rule Next navigation step Display/Edit End of the navigation path to enter editing mode.

Note that when editing a default alert rule, you cannot add configuration objects, deselect message statuses, or change the name and description of this rule.

  2. Choose the Basic tab and set the following details:
    • Set the status and severity as necessary.

    • Set whether the message payload should be part of the alert.

You must configure the user-defined search feature for the corresponding runtime components in advance as described in the prerequisites above. Consider that the only payload information that could appear in the alert is the one that matches the search criteria you defined when configuring the user-defined search feature.

  3. Manage objects in the Assigned Configuration Objects screen area.

The alert rule contains Integration Directory configuration objects referred to here as objects. You can manage the objects for the alert rule as follows:

    • To add a new object, select the object type from the Add menu and choose an object from the list.

Consider the following when adding objects:

      • An alert rule should contain at least one object. The only exception is the default alert rule.

      • When using an Advanced Adapter Engine Extended (AEX) system, you can also add integration flow objects.

      • You can use sender agreement and receiver agreement objects only for AS ABAP-based runtime components.

      • Use the Start of the navigation path View Next navigation step Show Message Header Rules End of the navigation path option. This would allow you to ensure you have added the correct objects to the rule and the system would generate alerts as you need them.

    • To exclude an object from the alert rule, select the object and choose Remove .

  4. Choose the Advanced tab and set the following details:
    • Select which runtime components the alert rule applies to in the Components screen area.

    • Select which errors in message processing the alert rule applies to in the Message Statuses screen area.

You can select individual errors as well as groups of errors.

    • Add or remove consumers for the alert rule in the Consumers screen area.

To enable the adding of new consumers, you need to activate the Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Add Consumer End of the navigation path option.

      Recommendation

You should avoid subscribing consumers using the Add Consumer option described here. This options should be used only when you want to utilize the simple local ALERT-TO-MAIL consumer provided by SAP. For more information, see Alert Consumption .

In general, alert consumers should subscribe themselves for alert rules using the alerting API on Integration Directory. For more information, see Subscribing Consumers to Alert Rules (RegisterConsumer) .

  5. Save the alert rule by choosing Start of the navigation path Alert Rule Next navigation step Save End of the navigation path.

Results

The system stores the changes you made to the alert rule. You can complete the alert rule modification process in the following ways:

  • Choose Start of the navigation path Alert Rule Next navigation step Check End of the navigation path.

The system performs a test of the alert rule and notifies you if some of its parameters need additional modification. You can receive notifications when the alert rule contains configuration objects or runtime components that do not exist anymore, as well as in other cases.

  • To distribute the alert rule to the relevant runtime components choose Start of the navigation path Alert Rule Next navigation step Activate End of the navigation path.

    Note

An alert rule can apply to an AS ABAP system that supports only the Alert Framework mechanism available in earlier SAP NetWeaver releases. When you activate such a rule, it is deployed to the Alert Engine on the central Advanced Adapter Engine. You also need to configure the AS ABAP system to send alert events to this central Advanced Adapter Engine system as described in SAP Note 1584248 Information published on SAP site. This way you are able to integrate the older AS ABAP systems with the newer component-based message alerting.

For more information about activation, see Working with Change Lists .
