Assigning InterfacesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You have called the Action Editor and are in change mode.

Context

You can assign one or more outbound or inbound interfaces to an action. These can either be service interfaces, RFCs, or IDocs.

Note the following restrictions when assigning interfaces:

  • For internal actions, the software component version of the interface must be the same as the software component version of the action. The namespace of the interface and the action can be different.

  • For external actions, there are no restrictions regarding the software component version of the interfaces to be added.

  • Abstract interfaces can be entered as either outbound or inbound interfaces.

  • When assigning an inbound interface you must be dealing with an inbound service, an RFC, or an IDoc.

  • When assigning an outbound interface you must be dealing with an outbound service, an RFC, or an IDoc.

Procedure

  1. Depending on whether you want to assign an inbound or an outbound interface to the action, choose one of the two tables Inbound Interfaces or Outbound Interfaces .

  2. Insert a new row.

  3. In the new row, start search help to search for interfaces.

    Note

Only those interfaces that satisfy the conditions above are offered for selection.

  4. Select the interface and choose Continue .

    Note

Alternatively, you can assign a service interface that has not previously been defined in the Enterprise Services Repository to an action. For this, enter the name of the required service interface manually in the relevant field. If required, you can also specify the namespace.

The top-down approach is supported by this option: You have the option to model the interface only as part of an action at first, without having to define it as a development object in the Enterprise Services Repository already.

You can then do this later in the Enterprise Services Repository. To do this, position the cursor in the Action Editor on the interface and select New in the context menu. A service interface is then created where the name and namespace are taken from the Action Editor. You can now define the properties of the interface.

    Note

This is only possible for service interfaces, not for RFCs or IDocs.

    Note

Note that it is possible to change the direction and mode of the interface for an interface design without these changes being taken into consideration in the Action Editor or the Process Integration Scenario Editor. This can lead to inconsistencies.

Results

The interface is assigned to the action and the name of the interface is displayed in the Inbound Interfaces or Outbound Interfaces area of the Action Editor.
