Currency Translation in the Business
Explorer
You previously created on or more currency translation types.
See also Creating Currency Translation Types
When wanting to translate a currency from key figures in the query, you can determine the translation type from two places:
...
1. In the query definition for individual key figures or structure elements
2. In the executed query, via the context menu for all elements of key figure type: amount.
1.
Currency Translation Using Query Definition
A more complex currency translation is available in the query definition. You
can determine how the individual elements (key figures of type: amount) of the
query are to be translated. One currency translation type can be specified per
currency translation type. Note that this can lead to overlays of two
different translation types in one cell. Then the translation type that you
most recently set is used. See also the example Multiple Currency
Translation Types in One Query
Depending on the definition of the target currency determination in the currency conversion type, either a fixed target currency or a variable for the determination of the target currency can also be specified.

If a variable is used, this will be requested when you execute the query. You can see the procedure in Setting Up Variable Currency Translation.
The values of a query can, on the one hand, can exist in different currencies, depending on the respective elements and the selected translation. On the other hand, various modalities for translation are to be taken into consideration (for example, a translation of plan data is done with year-dependent exchange rates and a translation of actual data is performed with month-dependent exchange rates.
2.
Currency Translation into a Common Target Currency
A simple currency translation is available, which does not have to be defined
in the query designer. You can access it via the context menu in the BEx
Analyzer. You have the choice between Currency Translation by Target
Currency and Currency Translation by Database Currency. In the
former, all values for one query are translated into one target currency using
a common translation type. The exchange rate is automatically created
using the selected translation type. In the latter, all values for one query
are displayed in the database currency. Depending on the data basis, these can
be different currencies.

If you have previously defined a currency translation in the Query Designer, you can use it to translate the values in an executed query into a target currency afterwards using a common translation type. For this, choose By Target Currency Using Definition Currency in the context menu.
In BEx Web Applications, this simple currency translation is available with the context menu. But, in input help for the target currency, only the currencies for which exchange rates are maintained in the system will be displayed, whereas all currencies are displayed for you in the BEx Analyzer.
