Process documentationContract Creation

You use this process to:

  • Create license acquisition and license sales contracts for your IPs

  • Copy the data in the rights inventory from license acquisition contracts to an IP to represent the acquisition of product rights in your company

Response Time During Contract Processing

The number of items in license contracts affects the system response time when you process or display contracts. Because response times are also dependent on the content of items and the configuration of item types, accurate figures regarding response time cannot be provided. As a workaround solution, you can split contracts containing multiple items into several contracts containing a subset of the items. If you are processing license acquisition contracts, you can use the cross-contract advances function when items refer to the same advance. For more information about optimizing performance, see SAP Note 1371986.

Process

  1. You create the IPs to assign to your contract using the Intellectual Properties application by specifying the following:

    • Base category

    • Product ID

    • Product description

    • Distribution chain

This data is sufficient for contract processing.

  2. In the appropriate contract application, you choose a transaction type that is associated with a user interface scenario.

  3. You enter the licensor or licensee.

  4. You assign the IPs to your contract.

  5. You enter the relevant rights and royalties information.

  6. If necessary, you expand the sub-IPs to retrieve information on the IPs linked to the assigned IPs through subordinate relationships, like the part or underlying component relationships.

  7. The system displays the details of your contract in hierarchical format, including the IPs, sub-IPs, and rights and royalties information.

  8. To copy the rights information from the acquisition contract to the IPs, you use the generation of rights owned function in the IPs assigned to the contract.

This ensures that the system enters the data from the rights inventory into the product data. If you have entered rights in the IPs, the rights generation overwrites the information with the data from the contract.
