This function is used to generate the rights owned or rights owned with granting reference to an Intellectual Property (IP) from the rights data in rights acquisition contracts, service contracts and from IPs at higher and lower levels of the hierarchy.
Rights Owned
You can generate rights owned as an alternative to directly entering the rights owned in the product master data.
Rights Owned with Granting Reference
When rights are acquired by way of a license acquisition contract, you can link the rights to the contract when defining the rights owned. The association between the rights owned and the contract is called a granting reference and specific rights owned are linked to a contract are called rights
owned with granting reference
.
The identification of rights owned with granting reference is relevant when calculating royalties and when carrying out collision checks.
You have defined generation formulas
for generating the rights owned in SAP Customizing under .
The generation formula defines whether rights owned or rights owned with granting reference are used for an IP. Therefore the generation formula assigned to an IP determines what type of information is displayed on the IP Overview Page:
If a generation formula for rights owned with granting reference is used, the assignment block Rights Owned (Granting Ref.)
is displayed, while the assignment blocks Rights Owned
and Underlying Components
are
hidden.
If the generation formula does not refer to rights owned with granting reference or no generation formula is entered, the assignment blocks Rights Owned
and Underlying Components
are displayed, while the assignment block Rights
Owned (Granting Ref.)
is hidden
Choose Generate Rights
during IP maintenance to generate the rights for the IP.
Caution
Selecting the correct generation formula is very important here and determines the actual characteristics of the rights owned.
The existing rights owned are rejected following generation and replaced by the generated values.
To ensure that your rights inventory is consistent and correct, generation of rights data should only be performed by experienced users.
Observe the following dependencies during generation:
Intellectual Property (IP)
If the generation formula evaluates a hierarchical relationship with another IP, rights for this IP must have been defined previously in its rights owned.
License Acquisition Items
The system only observes rights-relevant items during generation. (It ignores items that have been rejected.)
If you want to change this response, create an implementation of this Business Add-In (BAdI) to restrict rights selection. You do this in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management
by choosing .
Result
Once the respective generation steps have been performed, the result is converted to the corresponding rights scope. The result is always one rights scope that does not contain overlaps.
Caution
If the generation result contains overlaps, an implementation error has occurred.
If rights owned are used (instead of rights owned with granting reference), you can use the Rights Group Maintenance
function to post-edit the result if necessary. However, the system will overwrite these changes if you generate the rights owned again.
If you sign new acquisition contracts for an IP, extend existing contracts or make changes to the hierarchical relationships with other IPs, these changes are not entered in the rights owned automatically. You must trigger generation again in this situation. After you execute the function,
the results display under Rights Generation Log
in the IP. The generation steps executed are listed in the log. The generation step performed automatically at the end of generation by the system, which ensures that the result consists of rights groups that do not contain
overlaps, is also displayed in the log.
To adjust the function to the situation in your media company, create an implementation of the Business Add-In (BAdI) for calculating quantity-type fields. You do this in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management
by choosing .
You enter information on how quantity-type fields, such as Exclusivity Type
and Exploitation Frequency
are to be handled when the rights owned are calculated.
