Catch Weight Management

Application Component

Industry Solution Catch Weight Management (IS-CWM)

Directly dependent business function requiring activation in addition

/CWM/CM_1 (CWM New Architecture: Inventory Management and Accounting in ERP)

You can use this business function to create your own price types for your materials. This enables you to undertake various price calculations and simulations, so achieving an improved margin cost accounting (Controlling).

Margin cost accounting is a prerequisite for optimizing the control of the sales organization with the profitability of the products in mind, which in turn enables an increase in profitability for the entire enterprise to be achieved.

As sales markets are frequently characterized by low profit margins and are often subject to price fluctuations of raw materials and commodities, it is a significant competitive advantage to be able to analyze the effects of price fluctuations using additional prices, updated based on time. You can create your own price types and enter prices. You can then use these in the material costing or link with the balance sheet valuation using the appropriate methods. You can save the results of these calculations in other price types.

By regular cost estimates based on market prices, you can achieve increased cost transparency regarding the sensitivity of your product margins to changing market prices of components and marketable products.

The use of this business function provides you with a detailed overview and history to the nearest day. You can compare prices from differing sources and at different dates with each other. Further, the transfer of material prices from these customer price types as a future price for a material is supported, that you can then release as the new valuation price for a material.

Note Note

End of the note.

If you use the actual costing based on the material ledger (price determination 3), the standard price for the material must remain constant for the whole period.

Example

In addition to the standard cost estimate based on plan prices for your materials, you want to create a weekly costing based on market prices for raw materials, and use this as the basis for reporting your profitability for products sold.

Any one-off effects should be ignored by the calculation, so that it is calculated on plan quantity structures for standard quantities, but using the raw material prices of the previous week.

You create a customer price type Z01 that enables prices to be managed on a daily basis and that can be adjusted manually, and also a detailed history. You use these later to download raw material prices from your procurement markets for the previous week into the ERP system, where you can use them for anaylsis.

You also create a customer price type Z02 that similarly enables prices to be managed on a daily basis, but which can only be changed automatically. An exact history should also be kept for this price type.

Further, you create a cost variant that updates the price type Z02 with the costing results, and in whose valuation variant price type Z01 is entered as initial access for the material valuation.

As soon as either the raw material prices of the previous week have been entered specifying the exact dates of validity or once the prices have been imported automatically using an interface, you start the costing with your new costing variant that displays the cost of manufacturing for the previous week, based on your product standard and the raw material prices of this week.

You use the costing results for the revaluation of your cost of sales in costing-based profitability analysis, and base your margin and profitability reporting for your products and customers on them.
