When you adjust the menu structure for Automatic Roles, it can be helpful to assign special descriptions or icons to individual menu nodes. In particular, this applies to the nodes of the levels 3 to 5, which have a special position in the portal or to the nodes of the levels 2 and 3 with which the service maps in SAP NetWeaver Business Client are organized by subject matter. For more information, see Menu Structure for Automatic Roles.
You have performed Customizing for automatic roles (see Performing Customizing for Automatic Roles).
You are on the Menu tab in the Change Roles view (transaction PFCG).

1. Select the node to which you want to assign a description or an icon.
The system allows you to enter descriptions and icons at every hierarchy level. In the portal, however, icons are displayed in level 3 only and descriptions in levels 3 to 5 only.
2. Choose Additional Details from the context menu.
3. Enter the required information:
○ Description
You can enter up to 255 characters of text. Control indicators, such as vertical spacing, are not permitted. The text entered here is displayed in the portal as an additional explanation for the short text of this navigational node.
○ Icon path (useful for third level nodes only)
Enter the prefix PICTOGRAM_ followed by the file name without the file extension.
The portal supports a range of icons. For an up-to-date overview, see the following directory in the file system of the application server:
\usr\sap\<SID>\<Instanz>\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\portalapps\com.sap.portal.navigation.mimeservice\images
The icons are stored as files. You can find the file name in this overview.
Third level nodes for which no distinct icons have been specified are displayed in the portal with a default icon.
When maintaining the roles, if you move an existing menu structure to another level, the descriptions and icon paths attached to this structure are also moved. This can result in undesired effects in the portal.
You want to assign the icon for Working Time Attendance to a node. The file name of the icon is calendar_clock.gif. Therefore, you enter the value PICTOGRAM_calendar_clock in the Icon Path field.
