Function documentation Menu Structure for Automatic Roles  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You transfer the completed automatic role to SAP Enterprise Portal using an Upload tool. In doing so, the system automatically generates a portal role. However, the generation process demands certain requirements from the automatic role that is to be transferred. This section describes the requirements with regard to the menu structure.

Integration

You process the automatic roles with the same functions as the normal roles in the SAP backend system. For more information, see Creating Role Menus.

Prerequisites

The menu structure must consist of at least 4 levels and a maximum of 5 levels.

The first level can contain only a single node (top node in the portal)

The second level should not contain more than eight nodes so that the system can display this navigation level in the portal without horizontal scrollbars.

In the portal, a balanced screen should be displayed; in other words, you must select the number of nodes in levels 3 to 5 accordingly.

If the menu structure below a third level node is defined to the fourth level, the fourth level must be a transaction call.

If the menu structure below a third level node is defined to the fifth level, the fourth level must be a node and the fifth level must be a transaction call.

The menu depth below a third level node must be uniform. This means that below a third level node, either all transaction calls are in the fourth level or all transaction calls are in the fifth level.

Features

In the transaction PFCG, some comfort functions are available with regard to the menu structure:

Special position of levels 3 to 5

In Enterprise Portal, nodes and transactions in the levels 3 to 5 in the service map are not displayed as a tree structure; instead, they are listed clearly on a screen page and can be selected directly. Third level nodes are displayed with an icon and an explanatory long text to facilitate navigation. Fourth and fifth level nodes are not displayed with an icon, but can also contain explanatory long texts.

The automatic roles delivered by SAP already contain many icons and explanatory long texts for the third level nodes. However, you can change or enhance these icons and long texts to suit your own requirements. To do so, you make the necessary Customizing settings for enhancing icons and texts (see Performing Customizing for Automatic Roles) and follow the Assigning Descriptions and Icons procedure.

      Control function

You can use the Menu Statistics function to check whether the number of hierarchy levels is no more than five.

      Documentation

You can use the Print Menu function to transfer the finished menu structure to an Excel file, for example.
