Function documentationWhere-Used List for Global Object Dependencies Locate this document in the navigation structure

You can use the modeling environment for Variant Configuration to specify which objects are assigned a certain global object dependency. Use the where-used list if you want to find out which objects are affected by changes to an object dependency.

Integration

You can search for global object dependencies used with reference to the objects contained in the model tree. Alternatively, you can search for dependencies used with reference to all the objects that exist in the system database.

Prerequisites

If you want to use the where-used list for global object dependencies, you have to load a classified material (whose objects contain at least one global dependency) in the modeling environment.

The where-used list refers to reusable and global object dependencies only - not local object dependencies.

You can search for the use of a dependency for objects on the database only if the dependency in question was saved with the model.

Features

Two functions are available for searching for the use of global object dependencies:

  • Search for the use for objects in the model tree, with the where-used list of the

    • Object type

    • Object name

    • Description of the object

  • Search for the use for all objects stored on the database, specifying the

    • Object - with name and description

    • Class - with the type, name, and description

    • Object status

    • Change date (if applicable)

You can search for the usage of characteristics, variant functions, preconditions and selection conditions, procedures, and constraint nets.

Activities

Decide on which of the two options you want to use to search for the use of a certain global object dependency.

Search for Uses for Objects in the Model Tree
  1. Select the relevant object dependency in the model tree.

  2. Open the detailed view of the object dependency.

  3. Choose the Usage tab page.

The overview shows the objects that have been assigned the relevant object dependency.

Search for Usages for Objects on the Database
  1. Select the object in the model tree.

  2. In the object's context menu choose the where-used list.

The where-used list or characteristics, variant tables, variant functions, global dependencies, and dependency nets is displayed in a new session.

The search for the usage of an object is always executed on the database and not in the buffer of the current Variant Configuration Modeling Environment (PMEVC) transaction. Objects which have been created in the current session but have not been saved yet to the database (for example, a new dependency) will not be found.

The search for usages in the PMEVC buffer (which is for the current configuration model) is possible by choosing the Usage tab in the detail screen of the dependency or dependency net.
