Procedure documentationSetting the Time Span for Object Locking Locate this document in the navigation structure

You can define:

  • How long an object should be locked before being released (lock life span).

  • How long an object should be available for a user (lock protection span) before another user can take over the object. See also Locking Objects.

Note Note

An object cannot be taken over by another user as long as it is being edited. The lock protection span is refreshed each time the server is accessed, for example each time you save an object, and each time the screen is refreshed.

End of the note.

You can define the values for the lock life span and lock protection span in the configuration file for the Portal Content Directory (PCD) PCDStartUp.properties. Predefined values are also provided. You can find the parameters Pcd.Locks.LockProtectionSpan and Pcd.Locks.LockLifespan in the file under PCD Locking. For more information about PCD configuration, see Configuration for the Portal Content Directory.

Procedure

  1. Choose   System Administration   Support  . The Support Desk opens.

  2. Choose the Portal Content Directory area.

  3. In Test and Configuration Tools, click PCD Configuration to display the current parameter values defined for the PCD.

  4. Check the parameters defined for locking objects under Parameters for Lock Service.

  5. You can only view the objects in this interface. To modify values, you must access the file PCDStartUp.properties. For more information, see Configuration File PCDStartup.Properties.
