Procedure documentationLaunching the iView Wizard and General Information Locate this document in the navigation structure

The iView Wizard in the portal allows you to create new iViews based on the following sources:

  • iView templates

  • Portal components (deployed within portal components as PAR files)

  • Web Dynpro applications or application variants

The wizard provides step-by-step guidance, making sure you provide all the information required to generate the iView. Each wizard is adapted to the type of iView you are creating.

Once you have finished entering the necessary information, the wizard processes the information and generates the iView. You may later edit the iView to modify your choices.

This topic provides general information on how to launch the iView Wizard and to complete the first and general steps generic to all iView types.

Procedure

Launching the iView Wizard
  1. Launch the Portal Content Studio. See Launching the Portal Content Studio.

  2. In the Portal Catalog, right-click the folder in which you want to create the iView.

  3. In the context menu that appears, choose   New   iView  . The iView Wizard is launched.

  4. In the Source Type step, choose the one of the following:

    • iView template: Allows you to create an iView from an existing iView template.

    • Portal component: Allows you to create an iView from a portal component deployed in a Portal Archive file (PAR) in the portal.

    • Web Dynpro Java application: Allows you to create iViews from deployed Web Dynpro Java applications. Here you can create a single full-page iView per Web Dynpro application variant or individual iViews per application view.

    Note Note

    Note the following:

    • The wizard displays only the portal components and templates for which you have been granted administration permission.

    • Web Dynpro applications are not filtered according to portal permissions.

    • To create iViews from Web Dynpro ABAP applications, choose the iView template option and select the SAP Web Dynpro iView template.

    End of the note.
  5. Click Next. From this point, the wizard screens vary according to the source you selected. Follow the instructions in each step to complete the wizard. An asterisk indicates mandatory fields.

For specific information on creating each iView type, see the following:

  6. At the end of the wizard, in the Summary Details step, review the options you selected for the new iView. Then, do one of the following:

    • To make changes, choose Back until you return to the appropriate screen.

    • To create the iView, click Finish.

General Properties for iViews

This section describes the general properties you need to define for any type of iView you create using the iView Wizard. The wizard step displaying these properties varies according to the type of iView you are creating.

Additional Information

iView Name

This field automatically displays the same name as that of the component that you choose in the previous step. If you want to change the name, overwrite the name that appears.

This is a display name, the name that appears in the Portal Catalog, and in any form, dialog box, and window that displays a list of iViews.

iView ID

Enter a unique identifier for the iView.

This is the identifier registered in the PCD. This name appears within the portal administrator environment.

The iView ID may include alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), dashes (-), tilde (~) and parentheses. It may not include other special characters or spaces. The iView ID may include up to 100 characters.

iView ID Prefix

Enter a prefix for the iView name.

If you want all your iViews to follow a specific naming convention, making them easier to locate, you can add a uniform prefix to each system you create.

More information: Object IDs and Namespace Prefixes.

Master Language

Choose the master language for metadata defined in the new iView

The master language is the original language in which the properties of the object are generated and maintained.

When you create content objects, you must decide on a master language that is neutral for the users in your environment, and to consider using that language consistently as your initial maintenance language. Typically, when creating content packages, for example assigning iViews to pages, you should use objects defined with the same master language.

This property cannot be changed once the wizard creates the object.

Description

Enter a brief description of the iView.

This is an optional description of the system.

  1. Choose Next to continue. From this point on, the wizard screens vary according the template or portal component you selected.

  2. Follow the instructions in each step to complete the wizard. An asterisk indicates a mandatory field.

Result

You have created an iView in the folder from which you launched the iView wizard.

The initial properties and property values defined in the new iView are a result of selections you made in the wizard and properties inherited from its source.

By default, all new iViews are defined as non-template objects. To define an iView as a template, open it in the Property Editor, and change the value of the Object is a Template property to Yes.
