Assignment of a Configurator
You can use the modeling environment for Variant Configuration to specify which configurator is used for interactive product configuration for a configurable material in mySAP ERP. For example, you can choose the standard Variant Configuration function for production operation and use the Configuration Engine (also IPC or SCE) to simulate (test) product configuration models.
The selected configurator refers to the initial material – that is, the root node in the model that you are editing in the modeling environment. In a multi-level configuration, therefore, you specify the configurator for the header material – irrespective of how the components have been defined.
If you want to use the Configuration Engine to configure products, you must take certain prerequisites and restrictions into account when you create your models.
For more information, see Configuration Engine in mySAP ERP.
Also note the conditions for choosing an alternative configurator: Identification of a Material.
You can use either the
· Standard Variant Configuration function or
· The Configuration Engine
to configure a product interactively in ERP.
By identifying the material accordingly, you specify which configurator is used for which task.
· Variant Configuration, if you want to use the standard Variant Configuration function exclusively for the material. This is the standard setting.
· Variant Configuration for Productive Use – IPC in Testing, if you also want to use the Configuration Engine to simulate models. This setting can be reversed.
· IPC Only, if you want to use the Configuration Engine exclusively for the material. This setting is not reversible.
To specify a configurator for the material, proceed as follows:
...
1. Use the model tree to open the detailed view of the material.
2. Choose the Basic Data tab page.
3. Choose one of the three radio buttons in the Select Configurator field group.
4. Save the model to activate your setting.
