Background documentation Segment Builder Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The Segment Builder was designed specifically for two different user roles. One of these is the database specialist who is responsible for preparing the required selection criteria, combining the corresponding attributes into lists that then appear in Segment Builder. The other is the marketing expert who uses this data to model profiles.

Whereas previously marketers required an understanding of Boolean logic (for example, "men or women" = man and women) and an insight into how to formulate database queries correctly, the Segment Builder provides a user-friendly interactive interface that assists the user by displaying information graphically. The database queries lying behind the selections are hidden.
The database specialist is responsible for creating the required attribute lists, but does not have anything to do with the modeling process itself.  Similarly the marketing expert does not usually need to understand database logic except as to be aware, for example, of the restricted accuracy represented by samples.
