Address
Verification
You use address verification to avoid payment card fraud. The address verification system (AVS) confirms that a customer who wants to use a payment card to pay is, in fact, the card owner.
The system checks with the clearing house if the address on file for the customer matches the address he or she gives you during the transaction. The system then displays the check results in the transaction document.
AVS occurs at the same time as preauthorization or standard authorization. This is an optional function, primarily used in the United States.
For more information about preauthorization, see Preauthorization.
For more information about standard authorization, see Authorization.
You have arranged AVS services with your clearing house.
In Customizing, you have made the following settings:
● To set the system response to AVS check results, choose Customer Relationship Management ® Basic Functions ® Payment Cards ® Business Add-Ins ® Structure for Communication with Clearing House.
● To ensure the system settings in the activity above, choose Customer Relationship Management ® Basic Functions ® Payment Cards ® Settings for Transactions ® Define Checking Group.
● To enter short texts that you can display in transactions to describe the results from the clearing house, choose Customer Relationship Management ® Basic Functions ® Payment Cards ® Settings for Authorization ® Define Texts for Check Results.
...
● When creating a payment card transaction, you (or the customer) should enter the customer’s address in addition to the card data.
● The system displays the results of address verification on the Payment Form tab page in the transaction document. The results consist of several parts, such as address verification and zip code verification, and appear as alphanumeric codes, such as ZX or ZY.
Use input help to display short texts describing these codes. For example, ZX is displayed in the field Zip Code Check. Using Input Help, you see that ZX stands for incorrect zip code.
● According to Customizing settings, the system automatically responds to the address verification results. Possible responses include the following:
○ When any part of the address is incorrect, the system blocks further processing of the transaction.
○ When the zip code is incorrect, the system displays a warning but authorizes the transaction anyway.
