Background documentation Traffic Lights Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The status of a request is judged using traffic lights for different degrees of detail in the Monitor. The entire status of the request is displayed in the Monitor overview tree. The meaning of the status lights are explained in the following section.

Tab Page Status

Technical Status

·        A yellow light indicates that processing has not completed yet or was completed with a warning.  In the standard setting, a request is also given a yellow light when warning appeared during the processing.

Note

There are two ways of setting the traffic light color if warnings have arisen during processing:

·         You can adjust the setting for the entire system in BW Customizing, under Business Information Warehouse  ®  Automated Processes  ® Monitor Settings  ® Set Traffic Light Color or in the Monitor, under Settings ® Valuation of Requests (Traffic Light Color).

·         You can set the status the request is to receive per InfoPackage in the Scheduler, via Scheduler ® Warning Handling. This setting overrides the system-wide setting.

·        A red traffic light indicates that the request has errors or the maximum wait time has been exceeded.

Note

Wait time until the request is declared erroneous

The traffic light is set to red if the time the last IDoc for a request was received exceeds the maximum wait time.

Even though the request has the status red, it is not terminated. The traffic light jumps to yellow if the Monitor receives a new log for this request after this wait time has elapsed.

Even if you manually change the complete status (QM status) in the Monitor, this does not prevent data for this request from being updated further in BW. In this case, however, the request can no longer be given the status green, since the complete status overrides the technical status of the Monitor.

There are two ways of setting the wait time, after which requests are to be judged as having errors:

·         You can set the global settings in BW Customizing, under Business Information Warehouse  ®  Automated Processes  ® Monitor Settings  ® Set Traffic Light Wait Timeor in the Monitor, under Settings ® Incorrect Waiting Time for Status.

·         In the Scheduler, via Scheduler   ® Timeout-Time, you can set the maximum wait time after which a request is set to red in the Monitor per InfoPackage.  This setting overrides the system-wide setting.

The prerequisite for changing the status after the maximum wait time has run is that the request is monitored by the Monitor assistant. Only then are any subsequent processing processes triggered for the request.

We recommend you periodically schedule the assistant via the BW IMG (Business Information Warehouse  ®  Automated Processes  ®  Monitor Settings)

·        A green traffic light indicates that the load process has been successfully completed.

Caution

If you have activated automatic activation of ODS data, the complete status of the data request is not green until the data in the ODS object has also been completed. This is because the data must be active in the ODS object before it can be updated from the ODS object.

From BW Customizing, under Business Information Warehouse  ®  Automated Processes  ® Monitor Settings  ® Set Traffic Light Color or in the Monitor, under Settings ® Valuation of Requests (Traffic Light Color), you can set which status a request is to get if there is no data appears in the source system.

Total Status

By default, the total status of a request is set by the technical status. You can change the total status of a request via what is called the QM action. Do so by choosing the button Total on the tab page Status. You can create a quick-info text for the status you have assigned, which is displayed when you place the mouse on the total status for the request.

Caution

If you set the delta request from red to green, BW sends a delta request to the source system with the next request. The source system then delivers a delta. Data for the request that was originally red can no longer be provided by the source system (not with a repeat either).  Data may be lost.

Also note that the total status must not be set to green using the QM action if a request has the status red due to data activation in the ODS object being terminated. This can lead to data inconsistencies since request data has partially been activated before termination.

Tab Page Detail

On this tab page, the Monitor displays all information for all actions executed with the request in an overview tree. You can display information and any messages using the context menu for a node.

The following actions belong to the actual load process:

·        Request

·        Extraction

·        Transfer

·        Processing

·        Subsequent Processing

Note

·        Note that only the status of these nodes goes down as the technical status of the request that is displayed on the Status tab page. The status of the remaining nodes is also aggregated in the root node of the Detail overview tree. However, the status for this node is not the same as the status of the request.

·        Note: The status of a request in the Monitor can be different to the status of this request in the data target administration. This is especially the case when you have updated the request into the data target using a reconstruction. In this case, you can also see the log for reconstruction in the Monitor. The result of this log determines the status of the request in the data target administration. However, the result of this log does not influence the status of the request in the Monitor.
