Complementing the daily forecasts, which Unified Demand Forecast generates by default, the intraday forecasts tell you how the demand for your products will develop on a sub-daily basis. If you know when to expect peaks or drops in sales throughout the day, you can improve your stock projections and in-store processes accordingly. For example, your production scheduling, workforce management, or e-business scenarios could benefit from this granular look at your forecast. The intraday forecasts can help you to do the following:
Be prepared for peak activity times because you can plan your staffing and production accordingly.
Reduce out-of-shelf situations because you can resupply your shelves in time.
Reduce overstocks at the end of the day because you can offer promotions on those products early on.
Configurable granularity: You can set the minute increment of the intraday forecasts as needed for your scenario (for example, 15-minute forecasts).
Handling of sparse data: If the input data for a specific product location is sparse, the store data is used to enhance the data basis for forecasting.
To be able to generate intraday forecasts, you must fully install and implement the following SAP Customer Activity Repository modules:
Unified Demand Forecast (UDF): To provide the daily forecasts.
On-Shelf Availability (OSA): To provide the intraday distribution pattern.
POS Data Transfer and Audit: To provide the transaction log (TLOG) data for OSA.
Note
As part of the implementation, make sure to activate all SAP HANA content for SAP Customer Activity Repository, including the modules above.
For installation and implementation instructions, see
.Other than that, no additional setup is required for the intraday forecasts.
You configure the intraday forecasts for your specific scenario, using the Customizing activities available for UDF and OSA:
UDF: See the activities and their documentation under
. For example, here you can configure the control settings for modeling and for forecasting.OSA: See the activities and their documentation under
. For example, here you can configure the time granularity. To generate intraday forecasts, you run both UDF and OSA. It does not matter in which order you do this, only the results of each module must be available. The daily forecasts (UDF) and the intraday distribution pattern (OSA) are combined into the intraday forecasts.
For more information on how to run the modules, see the following:
