You provide basic information to start the creation of the Business Process Flow (BPF) template.

Procedure

In the navigation pane, select Business Process Flows. From the action pane, select Create new BPF template.

The following tables describe the information you need to complete the setup process:

  1. Setup BPF > A. Define BPF

    Navigation

    More Information

    Name

Provide a title for the business process flow.

    None

    Description

Provide a description for the business process flow.

    None

    Controlling Application

Select the application, whose Time dimension governs the BPF, including the step region definition, from the dropdown list.

If you select the Planning application, whose Time dimension is in monthly increments, the BPF works in monthly time increments as well.

The controlling application governs both the time dimension for BPF instances and the available dimensions for step regions.

  2. Setup BPF > B. Define Instance Identifiers

    Item

    Navigation

    More Information

    Identity Dimension

Select the checkbox of the identity dimensions that you wish to use for unique BPF instance identifiers. These are used to identify any BPF instances created from this template.

The system automatically selects the time type dimension in all BPFs. However it is a best practice to select at least two dimensions to define an instance.

The BPF instance identifier does not default to the current view.

  3. Setup BPF > C. Set Access

    Item

    Navigation

    More Information

    Set Access

Select the users and teams by whom the BPF can be viewed.

Select the appropriate option in the dropdown list to view by team or user. Move the users or teams from the Available column to the Selected column.

Setting this access allows these users and teams to view the process instances in the BPF monitor. They cannot perform any actions in these processes.

You must be a step region owner or reviewer to perform or review actions (these roles are defined when you are creating a BPF instance).

Result

You have provided the initial details for the creation of the BPF template.

To define steps and substeps within the BPF, choose Next. For more information, see Defining Steps and Substeps.
