Using System Configuration options, you can:

  • Specify the current time period

  • View the name of your Insight e-mail server

  • Synchronize your Planning and Consolidation and Insight data

  • Define KPI variances for an application set

  • Set up the default measures and aggregate measures for each application that uses Insight

Features

The current time period is the period in which the system calculates variances and it determines the default view of the Dashboard. Administrators can change the current time period. For more information, see Setting the Current Time Period.

You can view the name of the e-mail server configured for Insight. The e-mail server is specified in the SMTPSERVER field on the System Parameters page in Interface for the Web. For more information, see Viewing E-Mail Server Information.

The first time you use Insight on an application set, you must synchronize data between the Planning and Consolidation database and the Insight database. You should also synchronize the data at regular intervals to ensure Insight always has current data. You can run a synchronization at any time, or set up a data synchronization schedule. The synchronization process does the following:

  • Synchronizes Insight data with data from Planning and Consolidation

  • Recalculates correlations for each key performance indicator to determine relevant accounts

  • Refreshes the cache of key performance indicator calculations, such as root cause events, variance, and predictions

For more information, see Synchronizing Insight Data.

You can calculate variances for key performance indicators by taking actual amounts and comparing them to the associated budgeted amount. You define the actual and budget categories you want to use for these comparisons. For more information, see Defining KPI Variance Categories.

You can specify a default measures type and an aggregate measures type for each Insight application. The system uses the measures type to calculate KPI variance. By default, the basic measures type is periodic and the aggregate measures type is YTD. For more information, see Setting Measures Types.
