Executing Overdraft Protection
You can use this report to execute the overdraft protection function.
For information about starting the report and including it in end-of-day processing, see the report documentation in the system.
The prerequisites named under Overdraft Protection have been fulfilled.
The report executes the following steps:
The report selects all the debit postings that were placed in postprocessing during the posting day due to a problem with the overdraft protection.
The report calculates the available amount of the account on which the postings are to be made.
If the available amount is sufficient to execute the debit postings, the report triggers the posting in Account Management (FS-AM)
.
If the available amount is insufficient to execute the debit postings, the report continues with step 4.
The report first tries to transfer post the transfer amount from the funding account with the highest priority. It takes into account the transfer rules defined in Customizing.
The report differentiates between the following cases:
The available amount on the funding account with the highest priority is sufficient
In this case, the report triggers the funds transfer via a payment order. In the standard system, the funds are transferred in the account-managing system Account Management (FS-AM)
. The report initiates a hold in Master Contract Management (FS-MCM)
for the recipient item, which is converted in Account Management (FS-AM)
to a prenote for the funding account. The transfer amount is thus held until the posting is executed.
The available amount on the funding account with the highest priority is insufficient
In this case, the report attempts to execute the posting on the funding account with the second highest priority.
The available amount is not sufficient on any of the funding accounts
In this case, the report checks whether the transfer from multiple accounts is allowed according to the master contract product. If this is the case, the report transfers, according to the priority of each account depending on the transfer rule, either the maximum available amount or the maximum level amount and continues until the overdraft amount is covered.
For more information, see Example: Executing Overdraft Protection in the section "Case 1: End-of-Day Processing: Overdraft Protection with Full Transfer From Multiple Funding Accounts".
Steps a, b, and c did not succeed
In this case, the report attempts to execute a partial transfer whereby it reduces the transfer amount by the amount of the payment item with the highest posting amount, and starts again at step 1. If the available amounts are still insufficient, the report reduces the transfer amount by the amount of the payment item with the second highest posting amount, and so on.
For more information, see Example: Executing Overdraft Protection in the section "Case 2: End-of-Day Processing: Overdraft Protection with Partial Transfer".
The report triggers the posting of the covered payment items.
The report triggers the resubmission for posting of the payment items that remained uncovered during the partial transfer. When the payment items are resubmitted for posting, the check object Overdraft Protection
is deactivated and the payment item is processed according to the settings in the posting control rules.
Note
To prevent a funded account from becoming overdrawn in a partial transfer, ensure that you have entered the relevant settings in the posting control rules for the Limit
check object.
If you have entered settings in the transfer rules that mean that a possible overdraft protection charge is not to be included in the calculation of the transfer amount, ensure that the amount of the tolerated overdraft limit on the funded account is at least the same as the overdraft protection charge.
The report closes the corresponding account orders.
Once the payment order is posted for the funds transfer in Account Management (FS-AM)
, the prenote is matched on the funding account.
For more information about the return values, the application log, and the connection to the Postprocessing Office (FS-MCM-PPO), see the report documentation in the system.
To start the report manually, choose from the SAP Easy Access
screen. This takes you to the Execute Overdraft Protection
screen.
In the Job Control
group box, you can specify an alphanumeric key as the unique ID of the mass run. If you do not make an entry, the system allocates a key.
In the General Selections
group box, you can restrict the selection to all the accounts of one or more bank posting areas.
On the Technical Parameters
tab page, you must enter the package size in the Parameters for Package Formation
group box.
In the Application Log
group box, you specify which messages the system is to output in the application log.
On the Special Attributes
tab page, you can specify the priority of the funded accounts.
On the Individual Processing
tab page, you can specify a master contract number. The report then ignores any specifications on the bank posting area, product, or priority, and processes only the specified master contract.
