Process documentation Data Archiving Customizing Settings (Archiving Workbench) Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

These are a series of different IMG activities with entries for controlling data archiving. This section lists all these IMG activities and states which entries you have to make for the Archiving Workbench, which entries are made manually and which are made by your customers.

·        Entering cross-archiving object Customizing settings

These Customizing settings control the archiving objects as a whole. For more information, refer to the Structure linkCross-Archiving Object Customizing section of the SAP Library.

You do not have to make any entries in this IMG activity since the settings are customer-specific and must be made by your customers later.

Note

Make sure you use the special Archiving Workbench archiving monitor for archiving objects that use the parallel processing tool. This enables you to have a complete overview of the parallel jobs. For more information, refer to the Archiving Monitor (Archiving Workbench) section of the SAP Library. The Archiving Monitor section of the Cross-Archiving Object Customizing document is therefore not relevant.

·        Entering archiving object-specific Customizing settings

In this IMG activity you define the archiving object and set some of its basic characteristics.

You perform this IMG activity with the help of the Archiving Workbench in the Create Archiving Object step. The Workbench lists all the required control table entries that are delivered automatically with the Workbench request.

Your customers can then adjust part of this data in their application implementation guides to meet their requirements.

¡        Structure linkLogical File Name

¡        Structure linkArchive File Size

¡        Structure linkSettings for the Delete Program

¡        Structure linkFile Storage to Storage System

·        Creating a logical file path

In this IMG activity you make manual entries, outside the Archiving Workbench, for the transaction Change Definition of Logical File Paths (FILE). For more information, refer to the Structure linkDefining Logical Path and File Names (Archiving Workbench) section of the SAP Library.

·        Maintaining the global control of archiving

In this IMG activity you define the control settings (archiving mode, default values for residence time and resubmission period, package formation) for the archiving object that are not in the conventional archiving object-specific Customizing settings.

You perform this IMG activity with the help of the Archiving Workbench in the Create Global Customizing step.

Note

Make sure the entries are delivered to your customers as sample Customizing settings.

You can find more information on this in the documentation for the corresponding Customizing object Maintaining the Global Control of Archiving in the SAP Library.

·        Maintaining the check table for global control

This entry in the check table for the global control of archiving enables you to define which selection values the system will offer your customers later in the global control of archiving in their application implementation guides.

You enter this control data with the help of the Archiving Workbench in the Create Control for Global Archiving Customizing step. The system posts this entry to the Workbench request automatically, thereby ensuring that it is delivered to the customers.

This control data entry is not an IMG activity since customers are not permitted to change the settings.

·        Defining a residence time for application object x

To enable users to set the residence time for individual archiving objects in the application system, you must provide this IMG activity for each archiving object in the respective application system. You generate the related maintenance object using the Archiving Workbench in the Create Object-Specific Customizing step.

You can make entries in the Enter Object-Specific Customizing step for test purposes. However, you may not deliver these entries to customers since they have to determine the residence times of their own data objects.

For more information, refer to the Defining a Residence Time for Archiving Object Data section of the SAP Library.

The following table contains the names of the Customizing objects from the IMG activities above. You must include these in the implementation guides in your customers’ application systems:
