Use

You use the Property Editor to view and modify the property values and attributes of objects and folders in the Portal Catalog.

In this topic, we describe how you use the Property Editor to view properties and edit their values. For information on editing property attributes, see Defining Property Attributes.

The Property Editor does not allow you to add new properties to an object. Properties are defined in the object’s portal component.

Note

Any manual changes you make to a property in an object that has a delta link to a source object will break the inheritance between the two objects for that property—any future changes you make to the same property in the source object, will not be updated in the current object.

Any property that has been manually changed and no longer inherits its value from its source object is marked with a “not equals” icon (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text) next to the property name. Properties listed without the icon indicate that the current property value is inherited. For information on resetting manually modified properties, see Resetting Properties.

Prerequisites

You must have the appropriate permissions to be able to edit a folder or portal object. See Permission Levels.

Procedure

...

       1.      Open the object whose properties you want to view or modify. See Editing an Object.

The name of the object currently in display is listed at the top of the Property Editor area.

       2.      If you are in the process of editing additional objects at the same time, make sure the object whose properties you are editing is the object in focus.

       3.      Optional. Choose a category in the Property Category drop-down list, to display properties according to subject or function. Choose Show All to view all properties without filtering the list.

       4.      Locate the property you want to modify in the property list and modify its value as needed.

Note

§         You may not be able to modify certain properties as they may be defined as read-only by the content developer.

§         The data type varies from property to property. For example, you may be required to choose a predefined value from a drop-down list, enter free text, choose a date/time, or to choose a radio button.

Recommendation

§         To view a description about a property, move the mouse pointer over the name of the property in the property list.

§         To view additional attributes for a property, click the expand/collapse arrow next to the property name. For more information, see Defining Property Attributes.

§         To view the delta link chain of an object, open the delta link tracer. See Tracing Delta Links Dependencies.

       5.      Save the object to apply changes you have made.
