Business Planning Functions
Use
You use the business planning functions to solve standard tasks of business planning with the smallest possible configuration effort. In contrast to the user-defined and the predefined planning functions, the planning functions that are grouped together in this area make minimum requirements on the data model (
account model, availability of characteristic for the transfer of predefined roles). The scope of service of these functions is usually larger: You could also achieve the same functionality with user-defined functions, but would have to interconnect several of these functions.Using the business planning functions is similar to using the remaining functions: First you select a planning area, where the function should access data, create the corresponding function and define a parameter group for it (or several) that describes the exact procedure when executing the function. The difference between traditional and business planning functions is less in the handling and more in the power of the internally executed calculations. The performance of a business planning function corresponds as a rule to the combination of complete
Planning Sequences of user-defined functions.
In general it is correct that the planning tasks, that you can process using the business planning functions, can also be solved by defining corresponding user-defined functions and their grouping in planning sequences. You should weigh up yourself whether the higher flexibility of the user-defined functions is decisive and whether you want to accept the higher configuration effort that is linked to this, or whether the standardized solution of business planning functions meets your requirements.
Integration
When you generate plan data with the business planning functions, you can use this data as the basis for further planning steps that you carry out with other planning functions. The data generated in planning is also available to the other SEM applications that access the same data basis – especially the
SEM-CPM applications.
