Function documentation Front Ends for Entering Plan Data  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can perform planning in different front ends:

·        In the Web Browser (Dynamic HTML (DHTML) technology)

·        In the SAP GUI (with various technologies)

¡        SAP List Viewer (ALV)

¡        Microsoft Excel in Place

¡        DHTML in Place

Features

The structure of the planning screen is independent of the front end used. You specify in the planning layout the structure to be valid for all planning screens. In this way, the different front ends that the different planners use chiefly depend on the personal preference and the particular role of each planner.

For planners in the sales force who only occasionally need to enter plan data and very rarely work with the SAP System, it is generally more convenient to use the Web Browser, a front end that is independent of the SAP GUI. You can determine the URL for planning on the Web under Settings for Calling Up Planning.

The SAP-GUI-dependent front ends are therefore aimed more at planners who work frequently with the SAP System and are therefore more familiar with it. You specify in the planning layout whether you want to use Microsoft Excel or ALV in the SAP GUI (see Making Basic Settings). You must use DHTML to enhance a planning layout. However, you can also use DHTML for normal non-enhanced planning layouts. You specify that DHTML is to be used for all planning layouts of a planning folder. You do this from within the SAP menu under Business Planning and Simulation ® Planning Content ® CRM Analytics ® Planning Services ® Customizing ® Layout Display for Planning Folder.
