Generating Sample DataThe sample data (master and transaction data) delivered by SAP is used to make the different SEM-BPS planning applications operational in the shortest possible time within a test environment. You use the sample data to be able to test the fundamental mode of operation of the planning applications, without having to set up extensive data retrieval processes from your operational system.

The sample data is stored in the same InfoObjects that you also use for your production data. Therefore, only execute the activity described here in your test system, because otherwise your own master data could be overwritten when the sample data is loaded.
The sample data delivered is configured so that the data is not automatically written into the InfoObjects when the Business Content is activated. No InfoPackages are deliberately delivered for the InfoSources of the concerned InfoObjects. In this way it is guaranteed that existing data cannot possibly be overwritten unintentionally. Therefore, in order to use sample data, you must execute the steps described below (see the Process Flow section).
For some planning applications sample data is partly only available in German. If you want to use the data in another logon language then you must first translate the appropriate texts in SAP Business Content into the desired language.
The sample data is used by all of the planning applications in SEM-BPS. This means you must not take account of any application-specific special features. If you are only interested in a certain planning application, then you do not have to generate all delivered sample data. The following table provides information about which data is delivered for which InfoObject, and which planning applications access it:

The system makes it easy for you to identify the InfoObjects required for an application: Since the generation of master and transaction data takes place in the context of a planning area, you only need to specify the desired planning area and put together the appropriate characteristics with the F4 input help.
In the following sections, you learn which steps you have to execute to use the delivered planning applications. The steps contain the following tasks:
...
1.
Transferring Planning
Objects into the Production Clients
You transport the planning objects delivered by SAP in client 000 (planning
areas, levels, functions) into your production client.
2.
Generating Master and
Transaction Data
You import delivered characteristic and key figure values into the SAP
Business Information Warehouse.

It is important that you transfer the planning objects into the production client first, and then generate master and transaction data afterwards. When transferring sample data, you must enter for which planning area data should be generated. Therefore, the planning areas of the planning applications must already be available before you can generate data for them.
The master and transaction data that you generated is available in the SAP BW System and can be used by the planning applications for demonstration purposes in the production client.
The generated transaction data concerns the actual data for fiscal year 2000 and fiscal year variant K4.
