Customer-defined objects developed in the customer namespace are not affected or overwritten by upgrades. In the case of SAP objects, as part of an upgrade SAP may provide new versions of applications created with Web Dynpro for ABAP. Provided the original application has not been modified by the customer, there will not be any problems. If the application has been changed, it may be necessary to merge these changes into the new application. Merge tools are provided in the workbench for this. The upgrade/merge process for Web Dynpro for ABAP is very similar to the upgrade/merge process for classical ABAP components. Transactions SPDD and SPAU of the modification assistant can be used for upgrading applications created with Web Dynpro for ABAP and for their associated business logic APIs.
You can test Web Dynpro applications and their components by calling the URL of the Web Dynpro application from the client browser. For integration tests, quality assurance scenarios, and productive scenarios you can start testing a Web Dynpro application either directly by opening the URL in the browser, or indirectly from the portal menu (usage type: EP).
