Active Document Splitting
Active document splitting comprises all processes used to split the document itself. You control active document splitting using settings in Customizing.

By contrast, you cannot control passive document splitting. This is defined program-internal and comprises all other document splitting processes such as clearing processes.
Integration
Document splitting has an effect on subsequent processes such as closing operations.
For active document splitting, you need to have made settings in Customizing.
Active document splitting comprises the following functions:
The system splits the line items according to the classification of the document for a business transaction and the assigned splitting rule. You define the classifications and the splitting rule in Customizing and can adjust them there.
The splitting rule describes the relationships between sender and receiver of document splitting characteristics based on classified posting lines.

You can use document splitting only for documents that can be uniquely assigned to a business transaction.
Example:
You want to enter a payment and an invoice in a document. However, the document cannot be assigned uniquely to a business transaction. The document cannot be posted.
You can also define splitting rules across company codes. The company code clearing lines get the account assignments from the related company codes.
Once you have made all settings in Customizing, active document splitting runs automatically.
You can display a document as follows:
● In its original form in the entry view
● Split from the view of a ledger in the general ledger view and with the generated clearing lines
How the document is displayed in the general ledger view depends on whether the ledger to which you want to post contains the document splitting characteristics to be applied in document splitting.
To display the
split items of a document in the general ledger, in the entry view of document display
choose
General Ledger View
with the quick info text Document Display: General Ledger View.
