AFS MRP in Background Mode 
You use this function execute AFS MRP as a background job at a scheduled date and time.
You must have activated the business function AFS, Production Planning (/AFS/PP_PPL).
You must do the following:
1. To start AFS MRP in background mode, in the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics ® Materials Management ® Material Requirements Planning (MRP) ® MRP ® AFS Material Requirements Planning ® AFS MRP in Background Mode (transaction /AFS/MDBT).
The Variants screen is displayed.

Choose
Variant. The variant contains
the control parameters for the planning run.
3. Enter a name for the variant and choose Create. The system displays the Variants: Change Screen Assignment dialog box. Select For All Selection Screens.
4. Choose Continue.
The recommendation is copied and this takes you to the Maintain Variant: Report /AFS/MRP_BATCH screen.
5. Enter the control parameters that the system is to use during the planning run (see User-specific Settings). Choose Attributes.
The Variant Attributes screen appears.
6. Enter a description for the variant in the Meaning field and choose Save.
This takes you to the initial screen for the Maintain Variant: Report /AFS/MRP_BATCH again.
7. Choose Variants ® Exit.
The Variants screen appears again.
8. Select a variant and choose Schedule. The AFS MRP Scheduling: Start Time screen appears. You define whether the variant created is to be scheduled just once or periodically.
If you choose Schedule Once, the planning run is carried out once on the date that you have specified and with the control parameters that you defined in the variant.
If you choose Schedule Periodically, the total planning run is repeated at regular intervals.

If you run the total planning run in background mode, you can print out the protocol and the resulting statistics.
