Use of the BOM Explosion Number in the DI System You can use this function to specify a standard BOM explosion date for the components that you continue planning in the DI system and not in the SAP APO. This function is intended to ensure that all materials/products, which are used in an RPM product, and their subordinate components, can also be planned in the DI system using the same change number and the same BOM explosion date. You must use a BOM explosion numberto do this in the DI system. Without a BOM explosion number, the system calculates the BOM explosion date using the start and end dates from the planned order that it generated for the component requirements. Such a scenario results in the DI system using different BOM explosion dates, because the start and end dates of the different planned versions are not all the same.
You can use a BOM explosion number only if you use the Rapid Planning Matrix in the SAP APO together with PP requirements planning in the DI system.
In the DI system in Customizing for Material Requirements Planning, under “
Define BOM Explosion Control,”
you have made settings for using BOM explosion numbers and set the
Generate BOM Expl. No.
indicator.
In the product master for the components, you have selected
Always Collective Requirements
on the
Demand
tab page.
You have defined how the system is normally to calculate the BOM explosion date in the
BOM Explosion
field in the
global settings
. If you want to make a different setting for specific components, you can do so in the
BOM Explosion
field on the
PP/DS
tab page in the product master for the components.
When you use a BOM explosion number, the BOM explosion date calculated by the SAP APO can also be used in the DI system for all materials that are assembled in an RPM product. This BOM explosion date is then used in the DI system for all materials, including the subordinate BOM levels, regardless of whether you have specified individual or collective requirements in the material/product master.
You run production planning with the Rapid Planning Matrix in the SAP APO. The SAP APO uses the entry in the
BOM Explosion Date
field to calculate the BOM explosion date that is to be used when planning the assemblies and components in the DI system.
The following data is transferred to the DI system: the component requirements determined by the matrix, the component requirements that you wish to continue planning in the DI system, and the BOM explosion date.
The DI system automatically generates a BOM explosion number and takes the BOM explosion date from the SAP APO as the fixed key date.
You plan requirements in the DI system. The system uses the BOM explosion date for all levels of the BOM when planning the requirements.
