 Forecast Execution in Interactive Planning

Use

You use these functions when executing forecasting interactively. In general you do this when determining the best forecast parameters for a selection and when investigating exceptions that have occurred in background processing.

Prerequisites

You have created the necessary forecast profiles.

Features

The forecast view consists of the table/graphic area and the parameter tab pages at the bottom of the screen.

Forecast Table

This is a special form of the planning table with the following lines:

These lines generally appear in white, that is the values can be changed. Note that you can only save the data in these lines, if you have previously assigned a key figure. See Planning Area Functions in S&DP Administration ….

Furthermore you see three gray lines which contain the values of the following parameters:

  • Seasonal index

  • Trend value

  • Basic value

These are the parameters that were determined for the forecast. They cannot be stored directly.

Parameters

Here you can manually change the forecast parameters from those in the forecast profile. You can also find additional information about the forecast run here. This part of the screen consists of 8 tab pages:

  • Profile

    Here you assign another profile to the selection or save the current settings as a forecast profile.

  • Model

    You can select another forecast model

  • Horizon

    You can change the forecast and historical periods

  • Parameters

    Here you make the settings for the individual forecast models. The settings that can be made here vary from model to model. Refer to the F1 help for the individual fields for more details.

  • Forecast Errors

    Here you can see the selected forecast errors based on the ex-post forecast. Note that some forecast methods do not calculate an ex-post forecast and therefore cannot calculate forecast errors.

  • Settings

    Here you can select various options, such as outlier correction and Like profiles. These settings do not depend on the selected forecast model.

  • Messages

    During forecasting the system issues various messages about its progress. You can see these messages here.

  • Time Series

    On this tab page you can see the time series that available for use as

    • Phase-In/Out Profiles

      These are dependent on the planning area

    • Trend Dampening Profiles

    • Weighting Groups

      You can display individual profiles by double-clicking on a profile or edit by using the context menu.

Furthermore from the application toolbar you can

  • Start the forecast comparison function

  • Define or edit a diagnosis group to specify when forecasting alerts are issued

  • Manually assign a phase-in/out profile

Activities

When you call up forecasting from interactive planning, the system searches for an assignment of the current profile to a forecast profile (see Assignment of Forecast Profiles ). It then carries out the forecast using the given historical data and the selected profile. You can then make any changes to the settings you wish. However if you wish to save these changes, you must resave the forecast profile on the Profile tab page. Alternatively you can enter a name for a new profile.

When you choose from the application toolbar, the system saves the assignment of the forecast profile to the selection.

When you choose the system saves the assignment of the forecast profile to the selection and returns to interactive planning. The forecast results are copied to the forecast key figure.
