There are numerous functions for generating and updating a planning matrix:

Features

Model Mix Planning

You start a model mix planning run when you have transferred new sales orders to the SAP APO. The SAP APO generates planned orders for the customer requirements and schedules the planned orders on the production line that you have specified. It then determines the sequence of the planned orders, and thus the start and end dates for the orders. The system then explodes the matrix and generates a Rapid Planning Matrix.

You have combined the planning algorithms in the process package for model mix planning and defined in each algorithm that the planning run is to generate planned orders with quantity 1 or more. You use a process package to define how the system is to proceed in the short-, medium, and long-term planning horizon.

Example

You have entered percentage smoothing as the algorithm and have defined that several requirements are to be grouped in one planned order in the long-term planning horizon . The planning run generates several requirements for one planned order. The planned orders generated are grouped in time buckets , such as shifts. The orders are parallel to one other; their duration is distributed throughout the shift. In scheduling, the system schedules the start date for all these planned orders for the start of the shift, and the end date for the end of the shift. It then generates a planning matrix. The matrix determines the dependent requirements and the requirement dates. Scheduling for the component requirements is not exact, because the planned orders for the final product are not scheduled exactly. An exact calculation of the requirement dates is not necessary in the long-term horizon.

In the medium-term planning horizon , you have set prioritized equal distribution , and in the short-term horizon , generic algorithm . In both cases, the planning run generates planned orders with quantity 1 and determines the exact sequence of the orders. This sequence is used to determine the start and end dates for the planned orders. The system generates the planning matrix again. In this case, the matrix can determine exact requirement dates for the components.

Update matrix

You can use the function for Updating Matrices from the menu for the Rapid Planning Matrix to run planning for all or individual RPM products. The prerequisite is that the SAP APO has already generated planned orders for the RPM products that are to be planned; you have run model mix planning.

Update matrix from the product view/product planning table

You can update the planning matrix for a particular RPM product from the product view or from the product planning table. See also: Updating the Matrix in the Product View .
