Use

When updates with the status Error are listed in the Update Requests screen, it is not sufficient simply to correct the error that caused the premature cancelation. You have to repeat the canceled update, otherwise the change is not recorded in the database.

Procedure

To repeat canceled updates, proceed as follows:

  1. Display the canceled updates. To do this, choose Administration ® System Administration ® Monitor ® Update in the Easy Access Menu, or transaction SM13. Select All, and specify a date and time prior to when the error occurred. You now have to repeat processing for the update records that have the status Error, or are from the specified time period and are "stuck" in status init, started, auto, or run.
  2. Repeat each canceled update. To do this, proceed according to the status of the update record:

Caution

Update requests for which a repeated update cannot be performed are identified by the symbol This graphic is explained in the accompanying text in the Info column. In such cases, the system automatically terminates the repeat update. Potential causes are:

In all remaining cases, the update is performed.

Caution

Only do this for "stuck" records from the time the problem occurred. Normally, records with the status init are automatically updated!

Caution

First, check your update server using the Process Overview function (transaction SM50), to ensure that the update is not running in one of the update work processes.

For further information about this, see Resetting Update Statuses.

Once you have performed a reset, the status of the update record returns to init and the record can either be updated automatically, or as described above.

There are update records for which a repeat update is not possible. This is indicated by the symbol This graphic is explained in the accompanying text in the Info column. This is the case if the records contain one or more update modules of the type V1 repeat update not possible (see Displaying Update Modules).

  1. Extract the data from all canceled updates that cannot be repeated. You have to re-enter these updates manually.
  2. For further information about this, see Displaying Users, Transactions and Data from Updates.

  3. Delete all canceled updates that cannot be repeated.

To do this, choose Update requests ® Delete.
