Using the Alert Monitor

You should monitor your SAP System using the CCMS (Computing Center Management System) Alert Monitor. SAP recommends that you use the Alert Monitor as the principal tool for monitoring updates.

The Alert Monitor is a graphical monitoring tool that automatically reports update errors and other problems in the SAP System and its environment.

The following documentation briefly describes its use. For further information, see Computing Center Management System. The Alert Monitor is described in the Tutorial.

Starting the Alert Monitor

Start the Alert Monitor using transaction RZ20. Alternatively, choose Tools ® CCMS ® Control/Monitoring ® Alert Monitor.

Content of the Alert Monitor

In the event of update problems, the Alert Monitor displays the following:

Isolated problems due to program errors. The update server on which the problem occurred is shown in red. A warning or the message "Critical systemlog occurred" may be output for the update.

General problems due to an error in the system or database. Problems of this type are indicated by red alerts along with the relevant message. System performance can be impaired, or the system can crash.
