To quickly check whether updates are running normally in your system, proceed as follows:

  1. Start Update Management. To do this, choose Tools ® Administration ® Monitor ® Update. Alternatively enter transaction code SM13 (for details, see Update Management).
  2. Check whether the Update System is running (message Update is active).
  3. If this is not the case, the Update System could have been deactivated due to an error in the database. Alternatively, the system administrator stopped the update on account of another error in the SAP System.

Once the error causing the update stop has been eliminated, reactivate update (see Deactivating and Reactivating Updates).

    Note

Ensure that the system runs with updates deactivated for the shortest time possible, since an extensive number of records will build up.

  4. In Update Management, search for update records with the status Error (on a red background) and for incomplete updates.

View the list of all update records. Make sure that you set the date to the date of the last check. To view the data records of all users and clients, enter an asterisk (*) in the user and client fields. The resulting list is to be interpreted as follows:

You can check performance problems using the CCMS Monitors (see Computing Center Management System). You can also arrange for an EarlyWatch analysis of your system.

If you do not use the Alert Monitor to monitor updates, you should check the update status at least once a week using Update Management.
